John Fetterman said in a recent interview that defunding the police "was always absurd." "It was always absurd to defund the police," Fetterman said. When asked about Philadelphia City Council President Darrell Clarke's desire to take a look at the constitutionality of some stop-and-frisk policies, Fetterman spoke of the importance of making sure any policy decisions would not be "abused." Most Democrats — including President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — have rejected the concept of defunding police departments. Fetterman is running against Republican Mehmet Oz in one of the most competitive Senate races in the country.

WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden's approval rating stayed close to the lowest level of his presidency this week, a dark sign for his Democratic Party's prospects in the Nov. 8 midterm elections, a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll completed on Tuesday found. The two-day national poll found that 40% of Americans approve of Biden's job performance, unchanged from a week earlier. Republicans are favored to win the House of Representatives, though experts say Democrats have a better chance of keeping the Senate. The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, conducted online in English throughout the United States, gathered responses from 1,004 adults, including 495 Democrats and 321 Republicans. Ruben Gallego took a jab at fellow Democrat Kyrsten Sinema on Monday. Gallego said he sensed that Sinema would prefer it if the Democrats lost the House and Senate. He said Sinema was "nowhere" to be seen while he was campaigning around their home state of Arizona. Donating, raising funds and encouraging people to come out and vote and I have seen you nowhere @SenatorSinema," Gallego tweeted. Meanwhile, Gallego has teased the idea of mounting a potential challenge against Sinema in the 2024 Democratic primary.
