Jim Cramer said Thursday that PepsiCo is in a tough position due to consumers using GLP-1 weight loss drugs to curb appetite. Delta Air Lines : The carrier reported record revenue during its second quarter but a slump in profits, which dragged the stock down more than 5%. Alongside a solid print, the company said it expects record revenue growth for the third quarter on booming summer travel demand. Delta Air Lines on Thursday forecast record revenue for the third quarter thanks to booming summer travel demand, but its forecast fell short of analysts' estimates as carriers discounted fares after expanding flights. Adjusting for one-time items, Delta reported earnings of $1.53 billion, or $2.36 a share, in line with analysts' estimates. Delta said corporate travel continues to increase and that most customers expect to maintain or grow their corporate travel spending this quarter and after. Revenue from international travel has been strong since the pandemic waned, though airlines have expanded schedules, meaning more competition for customers. In 2022, Delta Air Lines offered passengers $10,000 cash to take a different flight after overselling a flight from Michigan to Minnesota amid the summer's post-pandemic travel chaos. DOT rules entitle passengers to hundreds of dollars in compensation if they are involuntarily bumped from a flight, under certain terms and conditions. How to lower the odds of getting bumped from a flightThere's nothing you can do to guarantee you won't get bumped from an overbooked flight, as one traveler who said he was bumped off an American Airlines flight learned the hard way. According to the DOT's 2023 consumer air travel data, Allegiant Air, Delta Air Lines, and Hawaiian Airlines involuntarily bumped 0, 3, and 5 people, respectively, over the entire year. On the other end of the spectrum, American Airlines and Frontier Airlines involuntarily bumped over 10,000 passengers each in 2023.

American Airlines on May 28 cut its second-quarter revenue and profit forecasts and announced its chief commercial officer was leaving after a sales strategy backfired. "The domestic supply and demand imbalance has led to a weaker domestic pricing environment than we had forecast," American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said at a Bernstein industry conference the next day. Washington CNN —A vast swath of the US economy is showing signs of weakness as unemployment rises to its highest point in more than two years. “When you think of services, a lot of it is driven by the consumer, and consumers are key to where the US economy goes,” James Knightley, chief international economist at ING, told CNN. Consumer spending, which makes up about 70% of the US economy, has already moderated over the past few months, government statistics show, and retailers themselves have said they’ve noticed shoppers across the income spectrum change their purchasing behavior. The bottom 60% of households by income accounted for a larger proportion of spending on health care services. These firms have added 168,000 jobs a month, on average, from April through June, according to fresh Labor Department data released Friday.
