The Moline, Illinois-based company posted a 60% rise in quarterly profit, yet investors were seemingly unimpressed as shares slumped for the world's largest farm equipment maker. While it easily beat profit expectations, Deere's stock slump is consistent with other cyclical companies that have outperformed estimates. Deere expects 2023 net income between $9.75 billion and $10.00 billion, up from its previous outlook of $9.25 billion to $9.50 billion. Construction and forestry equipment sales increased 14% on solid demand backdrop fueled by U.S. President Joe Biden administration's $1 trillion infrastructure deal. Sales from equipment operations rose about to $14.28 billion compared to $13 billion a year ago.

Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., August 15, 2023. But equally there was little let-up in the bad news from China's ailing economy and real estate sector. China's securities regulator said on Friday it would cut trading costs, support share buybacks and introduce long-term capital as it unveiled a package of measures aimed at reviving the stock market and boosting investor confidence. Other Asian bourses and European stocks fell too, with U.S. stock futures also in the red before the open. Emerging market equity indices (.MSCIEF) teetered near two-month lows too.

Walking across the National Mall, I tore open a packet of wildflower seeds — sky lupine, mountain phlox, coreopsis — and scattered its contents across the grass. As I later learned, to little surprise, the seeds did not survive the regular visits of a John Deere lawn mower and applications of herbicide. My purpose was pure protest, a symbolic objection to the bland, Kermit-colored expanse that dominates the epicenter of our nation’s capital. Across the country, the millions of small, suburban versions of the Mall directly contribute to that corrosion. Conceived by Washington’s master planner, Pierre Charles L’Enfant, in 1791, the National Mall was supposed to be “a grand, tree-lined avenue, flanked by embassies and gardens,” as The Washington Post put it in its superb history of the Mall.

I advise young engineers today to work for Fortune 500 companies, not Big Tech. Today, however, he's working on a project for a different kind of tech company: John Deere. There is no magic at Big Tech companies, there's only money. And Fortune 500 companies simply don't have the luxury of buying talent just to park it. Today, all companies are tech companies, and they all want to see more recurring revenue in their business models, which means they need smart, restless engineers.

Big technology names including Apple , Amazon , Meta , Microsoft and Alphabet were among the most underweighted stocks by North American funds that consider environmental, social and corporate governance factors when screening investment ideas. Big Tech has roared back to life this year, coming off 2022's selloff as investors bet on a better interest rate environment. Here are the 10 most underweighted stocks by North American funds: On the flip side, a wide swath of stocks accounted for the most held, relatively. Evercore ISI's Julian Emanuel says it's time to buy "sector neutral" stocks with earnings momentum but lagging price momentum. Names with earnings momentum Emanuel told CNBC on Tuesday that there's a group of stocks whose earnings momentum is "superior to peers." "We recommend remaining fully invested, shifting focus to a sector neutral quant screen of stocks whose EPS momentum is better than peers yet whose price momentum lags since the March inflection to Maximum Momentum," he wrote in a July 23 note. "Such 'Earnings Mo' to Price Mo'" stocks could be expected to outperform as price momentum leaders 'cool off,'" he wrote. But he said that the long-term story is "exceptionally robust," thanks to an expected "productivity boost" from China.

The FedEx pilots who belong to the Air Line Pilots Association voted 57% against the proposed contract, which was reached in May and endorsed by union leadership. But even with the “no” vote, the 5,200 FedEx pilots won’t be able to go on strike any time soon. FedEx pilots are covered by the Railway Labor Act, which despite the name, covers both rail workers and airline employees. The FedEx pilots, who unlike most FedEx employees count as airline employees when it comes to which labor law they work under, have not cleared any of those hurdles so far. There have been numerous examples in recent years of union rank-and-file voting no on deals that were recommended by union leadership.
