New York CNN —It would be an understatement to say that it’s been a good year for Nvidia. The California-based chipmaking giant has seen its shares soar about 220% this year, making it the top performing S&P 500 stock in 2023. What’s happening: Just before Thanksgiving, Nvidia crushed doubts that its star was fading by reporting gangbuster third quarter earnings. By Sosnick’s count, Nvidia executives mentioned AI at least 70 times on their most recent earnings call. Historically, Nvidia has had hard falls after missteps — between 2021 and 2022, shares of the stock fell by 66%.

OMFIF outlined a dark mood among the funds, with more than half expecting a global economic recession in the next 12 months. Circuit Court of Appeals vacated a lower court's approval of the massive class action, which included virtually every resident of Ohio and put considerable legal pressure on the chemical manufacturers to settle the plaintiffs' claims. The appeals court instructed the lower court to dismiss Hardwick's lawsuit, which had aimed to force the companies to pay for studies analyzing the health impacts of PFAS. The lawsuit also sought to establish a fund to monitor Ohio residents for health impacts from PFAS exposure. The chemicals are often referred to as forever chemicals because they do not easily break down in nature or in the human body.

Frederick Wiseman’s transporting documentary “Menus-Plaisirs — Les Troisgros,” centers on a dynasty of French chefs who live and work in a pastoral region in central France named Ouches, some 65 miles west of Lyon. The chef Daniel Boulud includes the Troisgros salmon recipe in several of his cookbooks. “Menus-Plaisirs” is Wiseman’s 44th documentary and the first that he’s made since “City Hall” (2020), which notionally focuses on the administration building for the city of Boston. (In between “City Hall” and “Menus-Plaisirs,” he made one of his rare forays into fiction, “A Couple,” about Sophia Tolstoy.) Nvidia is set to deliver three new chips to domestic manufacturers in the coming days, Chinese financial media Cailian Press said Thursday, citing sources. The chips — called HGX H20, L20 PCle and L2 PCle — are based on Nvidia's H100 chip, the report said. Nvidia said in a September 2022 filing the U.S. government would still allow it to develop the H100 in China. In the near term, Chinese manufacturers have no better option and they will continue to buy Nvidia's chips, while searching for replacements.
