The second debate of the Republican presidential primary is on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern time. The debate, sanctioned by the Republican National Committee and hosted by Fox Business Network, will take place at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.Where can I watch it? Fox Business Network will broadcast the debate. Republican candidates are gearing up for the second GOP presidential debate, as they look to chip away at former President Donald Trump’s comfortable lead with less than four months before the first nominating contest. After a raucous first debate in Milwaukie last month, the candidates are set to return to the debate stage for a two-hour event at 9 p.m. To qualify for the second debate, a candidate must poll at least 3% in two national polls or 3% in one national poll and one poll from an early state poll in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina, according to rules set by the Republican National Committee. In addition to the polling and fundraising requirements, the candidates must also have taken a loyalty pledge in order to participate in the debate, which all eight candidates who participated in the first debate completed. With that pledge, which has been somewhat controversial among the candidates, GOP presidential hopefuls must sign a statement that they will support the eventual Republican nominee.

Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former Vice President Mike Pence, former New Jersey Gov. Former President Donald Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination, is skipping the event. The super PAC supporting North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum has been the top 2024 ad spender since last week's first Republican presidential debate, as the group looks to help Burgum gain enough traction to make next month's debate. Best of America PAC has booked and spent $950,000 since Thursday, the day after the GOP debate, according to the ad-tracking firm AdImpact. That's more than any other candidate or group over that span, including the second and third top-spending GOP groups, the super PACs supporting former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. After tearing his Achilles tendon the day before the first debate, Burgum spoke for just eight minutes on stage, less than every candidate except for former Arkansas Gov.

He attacked investigators through his public rhetoric, refused to follow traditional decorum and seemed to say whatever he wanted to. Welcome to Opinion’s commentary for the first Republican presidential primary candidate debate, held in Milwaukee on Wednesday night. Gail Collins: She seemed generally reasonable and wow, when the debate turned to education and she actually brought up reading. If there’s any life left in the old G.O.P., Haley gave it hope. Perhaps more important, in taking on the glib and callow Ramaswamy on Ukraine, she showed anger and dominance, essential qualities in a Republican debate. Any debate that doesn’t feature Chris Christie at the front of the highlight reel is a bad night for Christie.
