FBI agents on Thursday arrested an Alabama man for his alleged role in the Jan. 9 hack of the Securities and Exchange Commission's X account, which sent the price of bitcoin spiking by more than $1,000, the Department of Justice announced. New York CNN —The bitcoin bulls and meme stock traders are fired up about the prospect of another Donald Trump White House. At the same time, shares of Trump Media were bouncing back from Tuesday’s mysterious 10% drop and resuming their meme-stock-esque tendency to rise without any fundamental reason to do so. What do the two assets, a digital currency and a media stock, have in common? Crypto traders are amped because of the Republican nominee’s apparent 180 on the asset class he once dismissed as a scam. Bottom line: Both bitcoin and Trump Media could become even more volatile over the next few weeks as more traders pile in.

Hong Kong CNN —She appeared to be a beautiful woman and in the minds of men across Asia, the video calls they spoke on confirmed their newfound love was real. But Hong Kong police say the men had fallen prey to a romance scam that used deepfake artificial intelligence to lure its victims into parting with more than $46 million. In a news conference Monday, police in the Asian financial hub announced the arrests of more than two dozen members of the alleged scam ring, which they say targeted men from Taiwan to Singapore and as far away as India. But increasingly realistic deepfake technology has raised the stakes and put authorities on high alert. According to Hong Kong police, the romance gang’s deepfake scam typically began with a text message, in which the sender – posing as an attractive woman – said they had mistakenly added the wrong number.

In total, Larsen has given around $1.9 million to support Harris' campaign directly and through PACs, according to FEC data compiled by crypto market and blockchain analyst James Delmore and independently verified by CNBC. Nearly half of all the corporate money flowing into the election has come from the crypto industry, according to a recent report from the nonprofit watchdog group Public Citizen. "What we've had to date has been almost like purposeful chaos by Gensler to kind of crush the domestic industry," Larsen said. Horowitz said that he and his wife, Felicia, "have known Vice President Harris for over 10 years and she has been a great friend to both of us during that time." Almost half of young women have at least a bachelor’s degree compared to 37% of young men. That compares to 2008, when Barack Obama won the votes of 66% of young men. One of the biggest financial pressure points for young men has been higher rents, which are up around 20% since 2020. Young men are more likely to be financially dependent on their parents compared to young women, with 74% of women describing themselves as mostly financially independent compared to 62% of young men, according to a Pew survey. I think Trump will do better with young men than among young women — the gap will be pretty significant in terms of voter support — but I don’t think Trump’s going to win an overwhelming majority.

The solana cryptocurrency could outperform ether and bitcoin in a big way if former President Donald Trump wins the U.S. election, according to Standard Chartered. In a new research note, the bank's head of digital assets, Geoffrey Kendrick, outlined his expectations for bitcoin, ether and solana depending on whether Trump or his Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris wins the presidential election. "Similar arguments can be made for the relative outlook for ETH versus BTC under a Trump versus Harris outcome in the US," Kendrick added. If Harris takes the White House, however, Kendrick said he expects bitcoin to outperform ether, and ether to outperform solana in 2025.
