I recommend incoming college freshmen buy steamers and dry-erase boards for their dorms. As a senior at the University of Texas at Austin, I know how stressful dorm shopping can be. The mattress topper is also not likely to transfer to your college apartment once you leave dorm life behind. You probably won't need a bed caddyPretty much anything you would put in a bed caddy just ends up on your desk or on the shelf or drawers you get assigned. A diffuser can annoy your new roommateHaving a diffuser probably won't be allowed in your dorm building, but it's also something that could disturb the peace with your roommate.

‘Medusa Deluxe’ Review: Curl Up and Die
  + stars: | 2023-08-10 | by ( Jeannette Catsoulis | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Suffused with the sting of hair spray and the scent of Herbal Essences, “Medusa Deluxe” swaggers onto our screens, all cigarette smoke and mirrors. From its playfully inventive opening to its flash-forward finale, Thomas Hardiman’s wild — and wildly impressive — first feature, set during a British regional hairdressing competition, is a proudly indelicate, painstakingly structured pleasure. Playing out in real time and shot to suggest a single, continuous take, the plot circles the sudden death of the show’s star stylist, who has been found backstage, minus his scalp. As his competitive rivals and their models await questioning by unseen detectives, everyone is under suspicion, not just the creepy security guard with the urgent requests for wet wipes. There’s the mouthy Cleve (Clare Perkins, whose opening monologue is a doozy), a stylist with barely controlled anger issues; the devout Divine (Kayla Meikle), who works part-time for an undertaker and is hence no stranger to dead heads; and the scheming Kendra (Harriet Webb), who may have fixed the contest in cahoots with its silver-pompadoured organizer (Darrell D’Silva).

The man smiled. Another man, standing to his side, placed his palms on his chin as his jaw dropped. “You’re the most beautiful — thank you!” the first man replied. Ms. Villareal thanked him back and, as the car drove away, left him with another message: “I love you!”A video of the interaction, the first installment of La La Land Kind Cafe’s “Drive-By Kindness” series, uploaded to TikTok in November 2020, has racked up more than five million views. Some of these bots have been helpful because they send users to sources of original content online. The most active one is probably Googlebot, which automatically collects web information so Google can later rank and serve it up in Search results. It's called GPTbot and it's being used to scrape and collect online content for AI model training. So what is Clarke's advice for other online content creators when it comes to GPTbot? What is the incentive that OpenAI offers to have these content creators allow GPTbot to crawl and scrape their sites?

Go with a growth mindsetPrior to ChatGPT's public launch, most managers had minimal experience using generative AI. That changed quickly as some businesses — including IBM — suggested that managers start using AI or risk losing their jobs. The better question for leaders is, "Do I believe I can learn to leverage generative AI in a productive way?" We are seeing this at an organizational level with AI, as some leaders put the brakes on using generative AI, based in part on perception of an AI-related skills gap among employees and the challenge of filling that. The conclusion here is that to get the best of generative AI, don't play into a dictator-servant relationship.

The downside of car camping is the fact that these campgrounds are often packed to the rafters with other campers. While RV camping may seem like a recent phenomenon, it’s actually been around for more than 100 years. Among the websites that list RV campgrounds and post very useful user ratings are RVshare/Hipcamp, RV Life and Good Sam. Other than maybe car camping, it requires the least expense and equipment. The U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management has set aside areas for free camping in national forests, national grasslands and BLM-managed lands.

Burger King Thailand has released a 100-patty burger that costs nearly $300. Which is how, 69 years after Burger King was founded, we find ourselves staring a monstrous, 100-patty burger straight in the face. July 2023: Burger King Thailand unleashes the "Real Cheese Burger" upon the world, featuring twenty slices of cheese and nothing else between two buns. July 2023: A week after the debut of the real cheese burger, the Thai chain one-ups itself by releasing the Real Meat Burger, a vegetarian's nightmare consisting solely of patties. In his role as a consultant, Mr. Heuermann was often the person brought in to make these sorts of determinations. Like so many professions, architecture can be punishingly stratified, and Mr. Heuermann, who by all accounts was extremely knowledgeable about the city’s labyrinthine building codes, did not fall on the visionary side of the spectrum. Last week a friend called to say that someone had been apprehended in the Gilgo Beach murders and that, however astonishingly, we both knew him. Mr. Heuermann had been in her apartment — deeply aggravating in the moment and intensely creepy in retrospect — and had been rude and dismissive when her architect called him out on a miscalculation he made. During her own renovation, she told me, workers discovered some rotting beams between her apartment and the one above, a problem that Mr. Heuermann said needed to be remedied with drawings for the replacements, which he would produce.

Quiznos is bringing back the Spongmonkeys, its pair of creepy corporate mascots. The last time the mascots were the face of Quiznos, the brand occupied a much bigger place on the American restaurant scene. The Spongmonkeys last appeared in an ad for the chain in 2005, when Quiznos had about 4,000 locations, according to Restaurant Business Online. "Quiznos' decline is the biggest in restaurant industry history," Restaurant Business reported in its own coverage of the Spongmonkeys' return on Tuesday. "The return of the brand's most famous mascots, the Spongmonkeys, marks the resurgence of Quiznos."

Kundera’s humor had a deeper purpose. I could always recognize a person who was not a Stalinist, a person whom I needn’t fear, by the way he smiled. Kundera’s novels often felt essayistic; they were about whatever was on his mind: nostalgia, the absurdity of absolutes, music. Kundera saw sex as an act of redemption and of liberation under repressive regimes, but his obsession came back to haunt him. Geoff Dyer compared Kundera’s novels to the slapstick burlesque of “The Benny Hill Show,” with “the nurse in her bra and panties getting chased around by these horny doctors.”

After Mr. Cannavale’s character remarks that people are fleeing New York City, the man replies: “It’s the fourth turning.”The puzzlement on Mr. Cannavale’s face invites an explanation. According to “fourth turning” proponents, American history goes through recurring cycles. Each one, which lasts about 80 to 100 years, consists of four generation-long seasons, or “turnings.” The winter season is a time of upheaval and reconstruction — a fourth turning. The theory first appeared in “The Fourth Turning,” a work of pop political science that has had a cult following more or less since it was published in 1997. In the last few years of political turmoil, the book and its ideas have bubbled into the mainstream.

Men are using AI tools like ChatGPT to improve their dating lives, an Attractiontruth study found. Some men said they used AI to generate their bios and craft personalized messages to their matches. Online dating can be tough, but AI might be making it a little bit easier, a new study suggests. Researchers at Attractiontruth, an AI dating coach, surveyed 1,371 men across the sexuality spectrum to see if they are using AI to enhance their dating profiles. In February, OkCupid used ChatGPT to generate matching-questions — like "Are you more of an introvert or extrovert" — that were later added to the platform, according to a company blog post.

The latest iteration of the animatronic toy launched on Amazon Thursday and rolls into stores nationwide on July 15 after a nearly 10-year gap. Still, Hasbro said it sold more than 40 million Furby toys globally in the first three years after they launched.
