Beata Zawrzel | Nurphoto | Getty ImagesWith Americans heading to the polls on Election Day, social media companies like Meta , TikTok, X and YouTube are under intense pressure to handle what's expected to be a flood of disinformation, heightened by the rise of artificial intelligence. The video amassed hundreds of thousands of views within hours after it was posted on Elon Musk's social media platform X. And TikTok failed to catch ads containing false election information despite its ban on political advertising, according to an October report from Global Witness. On Facebook and Instagram, Meta said it's adding fact-check labels to election content that's been debunked. In sharing dozens of posts a day on X, Musk regularly amplifies false election information to his more than 200 million followers.

Technology companies' push to directly power artificial intelligence with nuclear plants hit a major roadblock, after a federal regulator rejected a request to increase power for an Amazon data center. Constellation Energy and Vistra Corp. tumbled nearly 8% and more than 3%, respectively, in sympathy. The Amazon data center campus can still use 300 megawatts of power from the Susquehanna nuclear plant, according to Talen. The FERC decision does not impact Constellation's plans to restart the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in 2028 through a power purchase agreement with Microsoft . Election bets were approved legally just weeks ago, as the 2024 race headed into its home sprint. The ongoing legal wrangling could still lead to a shutdown of U.S. election betting markets, but not until after the 2024 vote. The CFTC permits only U.S. residents to use the newly opened election betting markets, meaning many bettors on the platforms are also potential voters. Nonetheless, Adam Cochran, founder of venture capital fund Cinneamhain Ventures, says he worries about how voters perceive election betting odds. Mansour acknowledged it’s a “fair concern” that the general public might mistakenly see betting odds as the size of a candidate’s lead.

CNN —Spurred by increasing global demand for air travel, aviation emissions have been rising faster than those from rail, road, or shipping in recent decades. The Natilus Horizon passenger plane aims to reduce emissions by 50%, and increase payload by 40%, due to its blended-wing body shape. Matyushev says the blended wing body design originated in the 1990s from McDonnell Douglas, a major American aerospace manufacturer that merged with Boeing in 1997. Boeing never commercialized a blended wing plane, but studied the concept and produced an unmanned prototype, the X-48. “One of the challenges with the blended wing body design is stability and control,” he explains.
