Health care may be the answer, if history is any indication. The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) has posted a November gain in eight of the last 10 years. Health care trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 22.2, while the S & P 500 has a multiple of 24. The optimism around health care comes as the sector lags the broader market. Some health care names poised to do well, according to Krinsky, are Masimo and Viking Therapeutics .

CNBC's Jim Cramer said Wednesday that as earnings season begins, it's wise to keep in mind that sometimes bad news is baked into a stock's price before the report. Cramer pointed to Wall Street's reaction to PepsiCo in the lead-up to, and wake of, its Tuesday report. He noted how shares dipped but managed to recover even though the company posted a revenue miss. While the snack and beverage maker did miss on revenue, it managed to beat earnings expectations. The company lowered its full-year outlook for organic revenue, citing weak demand in North America as shoppers buy fewer snacks.

Hong Kong CNN —China has set aside 200 billion yuan ($28 billion) for investment projects by local governments this year, as it promised to meet its own ambitious economic growth targets. China announced a 5% target growth rate in March, but a series of economic data over the summer has been so weak that economists were worried the goal might be missed. To help local governments struggling with mountains of debt, Beijing will provide 100 billion yuan ($14 billion) from the central government’s budget and an extra 100 billion yuan for investment projects, Zheng said. Nevertheless, investors were disappointed at the lack of details on new fiscal measures,” Fred Neumann, chief Asia economist for HSBC, told CNN. Fiscal measures, on the other hand, can include the use of taxation or other measures to impact public spending more directly.

Even just two years ago, oil prices skyrocketed to $130 a barrel in March 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine. Oil prices skyrocketed in 2019 when Saudi oil facilities were damaged in an attack that US officials blamed on Iran. As the fourth quarter gets underway, there are some stocks that may be poised to outperform over the next several months, according to Citi. "Now, broadening is apparent, with Value leading while Growth has not yet achieved July levels," Scott Chronert said in a Friday note to clients. Citi views newly added Ally Financial as "one of the best-positioned liability sensitive names," seeing the potential for total book value growth of 25% by the fourth quarter of next year. "While mistakes were clearly made with the '22 auto vintage, the short duration of this asset class implies ALLY will not be stuck with the problem beyond 2025," analyst Keith Horowitz wrote.
