More than 150,000 tech workers have lost their jobs this year, according to data from tracker site Layoffs.fyi. Industries that grew rapidly during the pandemic — such as health tech, education tech, and crypto — have been the worst affected in 2022. The issue, he said, was that some investors in crypto, education tech, and health tech paid little heed to economic fundamentals. Amid recessions, B2B sub-sectors such as corporate education tech and employee coaching remain promising pockets within education tech, the investor added.
A woman accused Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter of raping her at a concert in Washington State two decades ago, when she was 17, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday. "He also said he’d turn people against me because he’s Nick Carter and he would wreck my life," the woman is quoted as saying in a news release from her lawyer, Mark Boskovich. In a statement, Michael Holtz, an attorney for Carter, called the allegations "legally meritless" and "entirely untrue." Holtz said the woman had been "manipulated into making false allegations about Nick — and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time. Carter raped her a second time on a bed near the back of the tour bus while she begged him to stop, the suit alleges.
CNN —Backstreet Boys’ member Nick Carter is being sued by a 39-year-old woman with autism and cerebral palsy who says the singer raped her as a teenager on the group’s tour bus in 2001. The singer denied the allegation in a statement provided to CNN from his attorney Michael Holtz. ABC will no longer broadcast the television special “A Very Backstreet Holiday,” set to air December 14, in light of the suit. Carter faced a similar allegation in 2017 after former pop singer Melissa Schuman accused him of raping her 15 years prior. Carter, 38, denied the allegations at the time in a statement provided to CNN.
CNN —In a rare interview, twin brothers Ashton and Michael Kutcher talked about both their bond and their rift. “I go in the room and I’m like ‘Whoa,’” Ashton Kutcher said, fighting back tears. “He looked at me and he said, ‘Every time you feel sorry for me, you make me less,’” Ashton Kutcher said. Ashton Kutcher said during the interview that he was not aware that his brother had been keeping it a secret. Michael Kutcher is now an advocate for the disabled.

In the past two years, highly funded startups have tried to disrupt mental-health care. The startups said they wanted to help solve the industry's biggest problems: Mental-health care is too expensive, and there isn't enough of it to go around. Talkspace's priority is now its division that sells mental-health care to employers, which pay recurring fees for employee access. Startups tackling more serious mental-health conditions are working with health plansThere's also a rising crop of mental-health companies tackling the costliest mental-health conditions, something the direct-to-consumer firms tend to shy away from. About half of Bicycle's patients pay with their insurance, a number he's looking to increase.

CNN —Rising to the challenge of matching its successful predecessor, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” maintains the razor-sharp formula, with a setup that feels even more conspicuously like an Agatha Christie homage before an extremely clever series of twists kick in. Writer-director Rian Johnson again assembles a solid cast behind Daniel Craig, but it’s his use of language – where nary a word is wasted – that finally gives the sequel its edge. Netflix opportunistically stepped up to acquire the “Knives Out” franchise and, departing from its usual “Stroke the filmmakers’ egos” approach to theatrical distribution, will actually give the movie a wide one-week-only release before it hits the streaming service in late December. Happily, “Glass Onion” finds new layers to explore, in a way that makes the prospect of a new “Knives Out Mystery” every few years sound like a perfectly reasonable idea, wherever and however one chooses to consume it. “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” premieres November 23 in US theaters and December 23 on Netflix.
But if over time, we have begun to elaborate this brain so that it includes deep reading, the unnatural apex of the achievement of reading is what deep reading provides. “I just play chess on my phone,” said the Dallas Mavericks star. After his game-winning performance against the Boston Celtics in February 2021, Doncic was asked how he chooses how to dissect a defense. “It’s like playing chess: you’ve got to take your time and see the moves,” he told TNT after his 31-point performance. A quick scroll through Doncic’s blue tick verified Twitter account sees him celebrating the first basketball court built in Europe by an NBA team – his Mavericks team built a court in his homeland of Slovenia. The 26-year-old looks to be devoted sneakerhead, as he thanks on Twitter many of the shoemakers and sponsors he’s had in recent weeks.

I think I’m still answering it. I’m absolutely fascinated by this question, because I think I have an answer, and I don’t think it has ever been well answered. Since we’re talking about how things work: How do you want your new album to work for people? You have to take that on board as being one of the things that’s happening in culture and quite different from the story that we’re generally hearing. I don’t think many people take that as seriously as I do.
Kate Winslet donated £17,000 ($20,100) to a family facing soaring energy bills, BBC News reported. Carolynne Hunter said the cash will cover the cost of her disabled daughter's life support equipment. The family's annual energy bill is already about £6,500, which covers the cost of Freya's life support, as well as heating their home. After reading about the Hunters' struggle online, Winslet and her family donated £17,000 to their GoFundMe and contacted the family to wish them well. "We're still freezing and we're not even at minus temperatures yet," said Carolynne Hunter, per BBC Scotland.
CNN —Paralympic gold medalist swimmer Robert Griswold “maliciously targeted,” groomed and sexually abused a younger, intellectually disabled teammate, a civil lawsuit filed on Friday in Colorado alleges. “The USOPC observed Griswold engaging in this conduct and allowed it to continue,” the lawsuit adds. Griswold, who was born with cerebral palsy, won two gold medals at Tokyo 2020. Egbert and Griswold became roommates there, allowing the abuse to continue and intensify, the lawsuit says. Due to the “acts and omissions” of Griswold, USOPC and SafeSport, the lawsuit says, Egbert has “had to make the difficult decision to leave behind his lifelong dream,” of being a Paralympic swimmer.
Former Cerebral CEO Kyle Robertson just notified the company that he may be gearing up for a lawsuit. Robertson was pushed out in May amid concerns about Cerebral's prescribing practices. Called a "books and records" letter, it demands that the company allow Robertson to access information from the mental-health startup's files in preparation for a potential lawsuit. A Cerebral spokesperson said that Robertson's claims are "categorically untrue and baseless in law and in fact." In the letter, Robertson says that he also wants to investigate an improper valuation of the company's stock and allegations that he was discriminated against on the basis of his LGBTQ status.
There are many Netflix hacks, tips, and tricks you can use to improve your viewing experience. But did you know that you can watch Netflix, even without an internet connection? CNN —The game is afoot (again) in “Enola Holmes 2,” a wonderful showcase for Millie Bobby Brown that this time manages to work the character’s famous brother, Sherlock, more organically into the mix. “Enola Holmes 2” contains a considerable amount of action – a bit too much, frankly, given the more cerebral aspects of the character. Sherlock Holmes has gone through numerous iterations through the years, evidence of the character’s durability while underscoring how difficult it is to bring much new to Baker Street. Either way, the roots of the main character’s name notwithstanding, it’s unlikely Netflix will want to leave Enola alone for long. “Enola Holmes 2” premieres November 4 on Netflix.
Netflix's lower-priced subscription tier, Basic with Ads, is now available, so you can spend less to watch your favorite shows. Hiring freezes are underway at Apple. Since the summer, the company has touted its "deliberate" decisions about investment and hiring. But three sources with close knowledge of conversations at the company told Insider it has paused almost all hiring. Musk's Twitter has a list of thousands of employees who will be laid off, representing about 50% of the company's workforce.
The embattled startup hired against unprofitable growth, Jess Muse, Cerebral's president, said. Cerebral, she said, paid more money on advertising to bring in new patients than it recouped by providing mental-health services and prescriptions. Prioritizing turning a profitCerebral leaders held a series of staff meetings on Monday. During the Monday staff meetings, at least two employees expressed concerns about the increased workload, since remaining staff are taking on patients of those who were laid off. Several employees accused company leaders of blindsiding workers with layoffs after the employees said they were assured the company was performing well.
A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed a wrongful death lawsuit that claimed TikTok was responsible for the death of a 10-year-old who took part in the so-called Blackout Challenge. The challenge, which encourages participants to choke themselves until they pass out, had appeared on the child’s TikTok For You Page, according to court documents. The lawsuit was among several that have been filed related to the Blackout Challenge in the last year. In July, the families of two young girls also sued TikTok after their children, aged 8 and 9, died of self-strangulation while participating in the Blackout Challenge. A TikTok spokesperson told NBC News that the challenge had never trended on the platform and predates the app’s existence.
Courtesy: CNNShifting from ZuckerPart of Licht's challenge as the new leader of CNN is he's not the old leader. There's also a hangover effect from the sudden collapse of CNN+, which Zucker pushed relentlessly as the future of the business. The comments heightened anxiety for many CNN staffers, according to six people who were at the company at the time. The changes should also bring workflow alignments to CNN digital and linear, which should help both entities' content and organization. CNN still hasn't named a chief digital officer, although the company's job posting now says it's filled.
John Fetterman suffered days before winning the Democratic Senate nomination in May. The stroke added a new wrinkle to a race that could determine which party takes control of the 50-50 U.S. Senate. The Oz campaign is clearly hoping that perception will hurt Fetterman. In one egregious example, Oz issued a list of “concessions” for their debate Tuesday night that many see as mocking. Benjamin Abella, a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, criticized the Oz campaign for shaming a stroke survivor.

Cerebral said in a memo that the moves would affect all of the company’s divisions. Telehealth startup Cerebral Inc. told staffers it is cutting jobs and restructuring its operations in moves that will affect about 20% of its employees, shrinking the company to match patient demand and lower growth targets. In a memo to staff on Monday, Chief Executive David Mou said the changes would be spread across all divisions, including headquarters, clinical-care teams and support staff. He said employees would be notified over the course of the week, according to the memo, which was viewed by The Wall Street Journal.
