Florida had the biggest net gain of high-earning households, according to a recent SmartAsset study . Using $200,000 of adjusted gross income as a threshold, the study examined the number of high-income households moving into and out of each state to determine the net inflow. More high-income households have left California and New York than moved in, but some states saw the opposite. According to prosecutors, Bowyer ran an illegal gambling business for at least five years in Southern California and Las Vegas, and he took wagers from more than 700 bettors, including Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. Meanwhile, sports gambling is illegal in California, even as 38 states and the District of Columbia allow some form of it. Shoppers could soon have to pay much higher prices for fruit and vegetables as farmers shoulder higher growing costs from the heat, a reversal of a trend seen over the past year with the cost of fruits and vegetables dropping by 1%, according to June Consumer Price Index data. For the rest of this summer, consumers aren’t likely to see markedly higher prices for seasonal fruits like blueberries because contracts with distributors and retailers tend to be worked out in advance, he said. Climate change, he said, is causing his business to suffer financially with reduced crop yields. Firefighters raced to contain scores of blazes across the American West on Friday night as California’s largest wildfire of the year prompted a new wave of evacuations. Federal officials say active fires have burned more than 1.8 million acres. Already this week, thousands of people have been told to evacuate, and haze from the fires has floated across the continent. The fire’s growth triggered a new wave of evacuation orders and warnings on Friday, when it was zero percent contained, according to Cal Fire. Gavin Newsom of California on Friday declared a state of emergency for Butte and Tehama Counties, in addition to Plumas County, where the Gold Complex fire had burned nearly 3,000 acres.
