SAN JOSE, California (AP) — Computer chip and software maker Broadcom has announced it has cleared all regulatory hurdles and plans to complete its $69 billion acquisition of cloud technology company VMware on Wednesday. The company, based in San Jose, California, announced it planned to move ahead with the deal after China joined the list of countries that had given a go-ahead for the acquisition. Broadcom is paying $61 billion in cash and stock for VMware and taking on $8 billion of its debt, making this one of the biggest technology deals ever. The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm and top antitrust enforcer, cleared the deal after Broadcom made concessions to address its concerns about competition. VMware, which is based in Palo Alto, California, has close relations with every major cloud company and provider, including Amazon, Google and Microsoft.

Shares of Broadcom (AVGO) came under pressure Tuesday, as investors likely cashed in after the stock surged to an all-time high. Shares of Broadcom fell more than 1% Tuesday, to around $983.70 apiece. VMWare shares fell around 4.5% Tuesday, to $143.20 each, bringing the company's stock closer to the cash-consideration level spelled out in the merger agreement . As a result of the transaction, Jim argued investors may eventually assign a higher earnings multiple to Broadcom stock, which could help boost its price over time. From fog horns to bottles of urine, sailors are trying some wild ways to save their yachts. This latest sinking adds to the hundreds of incidents of orcas interacting with, damaging, and sometimes sinking boats over the last three years. Pouring gasoline or diesel fluid and urine into the water had no effect, according to the few sailors who tried it. Dumping a black water tank filled with a "bleach solution" seemed to provoke the orcas into ramming the boat more, according to one account. A group of Google contractors, some of whom have worked on Search and Google's artificial intelligence chatbot Bard, have successfully voted to unionize. The Alphabet Workers Union teamed up with the Communications Workers of America in 2021 as a minority union. "We have no objection to these Accenture workers electing to form a union," said Google spokesperson Courtenay Mencini in a statement to CNBC. German power market forwards for 2024 and 2025LIGHT-TOUCH REFORMEuropean power prices have fallen a long way from their 2022 peaks, when the region was still reeling from the reduction in Russian gas supplies. EU member states were deeply split on proposals for more fundamental reform of Europe's power market to allow for a complete break of the gas-power price linkage. The hard-won compromise keeps the existing market mechanism, which its supporters claim is more efficient than other models in a liberalised electricity market.
