Follow her on Instagram, Facebook and X.CNN —One of the increased dangers kids could face on social media this week comes from an unexpected source: their parents. On National Daughters Day on Wednesday, many parents will share pictures of their children on their social media feeds. But “sharenting” — when parents share pictures of their kids on social media — comes with potential risks to children. An even scarier prospect is the possibility that photos parents post could attract the attention of criminals. The parents I have spoken to across the country often tell me they are worried about what their children are doing on social media.

(CNN) – One person is dead after a gunman hijacked a Los Angeles city bus overnight, leading police in pursuit around the city for more than an hour before the suspect was taken into custody. A person was found in the bus early Wednesday with gunshot wounds, then taken to a hospital, where they died, Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Donald Graham said. The bus driver and a passenger were rescued from the bus after police eventually stopped it with spike strips before a SWAT team moved in for the rescue, he said. Police did not immediately have information about the suspect’s motive, and the investigation continues. The bus driver “is in relatively good spirits, though a bit shaken up,” Graham said.

The asteroid, dubbed 2024 PT5, is 33 feet long — roughly equivalent to a standard school bus. The asteroid is expected to enter Earth’s orbit Sunday and lurk there until Nov. 25, just over 56 days, Marcos said. Astronomers in Arizona spotted a different visiting mini-moon — a tiny asteroid named 2020 CD3 — in Earth’s orbit in February 2020. “A short mini-moon episode may last hours, days, weeks or a few months, and the affected object does not complete one revolution around Earth,” he said in an email. An early warning system for asteroids known as ATLAS (short for Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) discovered 2024 PT5 in early August.

CNN —The US Commerce Department on Monday will propose a ban on the sale or import of smart vehicles that use specific Chinese or Russian technology because of national security concerns, according to US officials. The rule would not apply to cars already on the road in the US that already have Chinese software installed, a senior administration official told CNN. The software ban would take effect for vehicles for “model year” 2027 and the hardware ban for “model year” 2030, according to the Commerce Department. If millions more smart cars with vulnerable, Chinese-made tech are on US roads, “the risk of disruption and sabotage increases dramatically,” he said. “China opposes the US’s broadening of the concept of national security and the discriminatory actions taken against Chinese companies and products,” said Lin Jian, spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement.

Davis, who will be sentenced in December, faces a maximum of six years in prison, according to the plea agreement. The student, who has only been identified as Z.F., was seated near the back of the bus when Davis boarded and sat down nearby, according to the plea agreement. The incident left many Asian American students at the university shaken, with several previously telling NBC News that they did not feel sufficiently supported. Some pointed out that the anti-Asian hate was particularly concerning given the area’s history of race-related violence against Asian students. Chu pleaded guilty to having seditiously worn a T-shirt with the protest slogan “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times.”The slogan was chanted on the streets during the months of pro-democracy demonstrations that rocked Hong Kong in 2019. The program had marked a shift in Denver’s strategy of housing migrants in massive temporary shelters to providing individual resources. About 860 people are currently part of the program, which offers six months of housing, job training, language instruction and legal support in filing asylum claims, according to city officials. In addition to ending the program, the city is closing its remaining migrant shelter at the end of the month, Jon Ewing, a city spokesperson who manages communications for Denver’s newcomer response, said Tuesday. Denver, Chicago and New York have had to adapt over the past two years as their migrant populations have grown since Texas Gov. Ewing said Denver is “enormously proud” of its asylum-seeker resource program and its broader migrant response.
