London CNN —From ESG investing (Blackrock), to gay rights (Disney), to Donald Trump after the Capitol riots (mainstream corporate America), companies routinely take a stand. But when the barbarous scale of Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel became clear, staying silent ceased to be an option. “Saying nothing speaks to cowardice,” said Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a professor at the Yale School of Management who focuses on corporate leadership among other issues. All in, around 80 household-name companies in America have condemned the Hamas attacks, as tracked by Sonnenfeld who maintains a list. “Not taking a stand is taking a stand,” Susan, who served in the Israeli special forces, told CNN.

Even if he gets immense GOP congressional support to become speaker, Trump also appears like the very last person who'd even want the position. US President Donald Trump speaks in the Brady Briefing Room at the White House in Washington, DC on November 5, 2020. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs president, Trump was free to hire and fire staffers, counsel, and his cabinet at any point he wanted. As a speaker but not a member of Congress, Trump would have literally no ability to vote on any pieces of legislation. Let's imagine, for a minute, that Trump's both interested in the position and can somehow manage to convince GOP members to take McCarthy's spot.

REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 5 (Reuters) - Constellation Brands (STZ.N) raised its annual profit target on Thursday after higher prices and strong demand for its beers and spirits drove a sales and profit beat in the second quarter. Alcohol producers such as Constellation and peer Brown-Forman (BFb.N) have benefited from increasing prices, helping offset steeper raw material costs. Constellation also raised the annual sales forecast for its beer business. Constellation now expects fiscal 2024 comparable earnings per share between $12.00 and $12.20, as against its previous forecast of profit between $11.70 and $12.00 per share.

CNN —Republicans are enraged that their safe space was punctured at the second GOP debate by a Univision anchor. After welcoming viewers in Spanish (the debate was simulcast on Univision), Calderón queried the Republicans through the night on weighty issues related to immigration, hate crimes, health care, and more. But unlike what is typical on Fox News, Calderón declined to frame her questions in a manner favorable for the Republican candidates. “The Univision anchor’s questions seem to come from the comments section of Salon and Vox,” talk radio host Buck Sexton said. “I think the Univision lady thinks she’s at a Democratic Debate,” Fox News commenter Tomi Lahren added.

“A scandal breaking on a Tuesday is very different than one breaking on a Friday, because on Tuesday you’re going to have the rest of the week for stories to drop and snowball. After the September meeting pause last week, the target range for the fed funds rate remained at 5.25% to 5.50%. First, I don't know a soul besides me who agrees with that 20-year versus fed funds rate yield prognosis. They think the fed funds rate will come down or the 20-year yield is already extended. Second, I don't know anyone else who believes the economy is so strong that the Fed is correct to keep on an anti-inflation course. I don't think so.

Marcus Stroman will make his first start in nearly two months on Saturday when the Cubs try for a second consecutive victory over the Colorado Rockies, who have lost their past eight road games. New York CNN —PETA said it’s “cracking open some cold ones” after Anheuser-Busch said it’s ending the practice of cutting the tails of Budweiser’s iconic Clydesdale horses. Budweiser has featured the horses, with their ubiquitous white feathered legs, in its ad campaigns for decades, from the holidays to the Super Bowl. But the practice of “docking,” which is when the tail’s hair is cut short and which can result in parts of the tailbone being shaved off, has long been under fire from animal rights groups. The American Veterinary Medical Association said the practice has become “cosmetically fashionable” in some breeds for competitions or shows. At least ten states have banned the docking of horses’ tails, the AVMA said.

The rise of new anti-obesity medications could result in less alcohol consumption, impacting Club name Constellation Brands (STZ). The risk already seems to be playing out in food stocks with exposure to snacks and junk food. We don't think Constellation Brands stock will suffer the same fate as shares of leading snack food companies like J.M. Key points The increasing popularity of new diabetes/weight loss drugs could curtail consumer appetite for junk food and alcohol. Constellation Brands (STZ), the Club name behind the Mexican beers Corona and Modelo, should be able to weather any such headwind.

TD Cowen says Bud Light owner Anheuser-Busch InBev is a long-term growth story with strong margins and exceptional market share. The firm initiated coverage of the beverage stock with an outperform rating and a 63 euro per share price target on Thursday. Shares of the Bud Light owner stock have slipped nearly 5% from the start of the year. Analyst Vivien Azer says that while challenges in the U.S. have been well covered , the company is still the dominant global leader in beer with exceptional profit margins.
