That's how it worked out for Matthew Parkhurst, co-founder and CEO of New York-based tech startup Antimetal. The company was ready to emerge from its beta phase, and Parkhurst wanted to make potential clients aware that Antimetal even existed. Antimetal spent roughly $15,000 on pizzas, packaging and targeted delivery to potential clients, venture capital firms and even tech influencers with large social media followings. It worked: Roughly 75 of the companies that received pizza have become Antimetal clients, Parkhurst says — creating a bump of more than $1 million in annualized net revenue, according to documents reviewed by CNBC Make It. "Obviously, the ROI [return on investment] is insane on the revenue side, compared to what we spent," Parkhurst says.

In a meeting with House Republicans on Thursday, former President Donald Trump called Milwaukee — the host of the 2024 Republican National Convention — a "horrible" city and said it is overrun by crime. The Trump campaign denied that he called the city "horrible," writing in a press release that the reports are a "total lie." "President Trump was explicitly referring to the problems in Milwaukee, specifically violent crime and voter fraud," the campaign said in its statement. Republican Rep. Bryan Steil, of Wisconsin, replied to a post on X that reported Trump's comment that Milwaukee is a "horrible" city. "We'll see that at the RNC — and then again in November, when Wisconsinites send Donald Trump packing."

Crypto's culture encourages investors to "HODL," or hold on for dear life, in the rollercoaster ride of bitcoin 's extreme fluctuations. But this long-prized practice may diminish as adoption of ETFs grows, particularly if traditional investors who are accustomed to rebalancing their portfolios regularly add in bitcoin exposure. "From a risk management point of view, rebalancing is a good thing. But rebalancing also means that they're going to be sellers along this journey." At the moment, long-term holders are selling, as is normal during bull markets, after accumulating bitcoin during the bear market.

Still, etiquette experts say there are situations where you may feel pressured to tip but are by no means required to. To be clear, the etiquette experts aren't saying to avoid tipping at the counter — merely that it's at your discretion. "It's a nice gesture to offer a tip to a worker who goes above and beyond the service," Swann says. "From an etiquette standpoint, we still tip the servers who are bringing us our food," he says.

How much do we pay for an enterprise software business that may have hit the wall, suddenly slowing down to sales growth in the high single digits from growth in the double digits? But Salesforce is the most glaring of the enterprise software behemoths, which include ServiceNow , Adobe , Workday , SAP , Intuit , and fallen star MongoDB . Or to put it another way, Salesforce needs its clients to hire more people to increase sales growth. SaaS is another form of enterprise software, is another form of applications software, is another form of kryptonite. Of course, there will be enterprise software companies that defy the slowdown.

How Red Lobster choked on its own Endless Shrimp deal
  + stars: | 2024-05-21 | by ( Allison Morrow | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
First, Red Lobster got screwed by private equity. Back in 2014, the Darden restaurant group spun off Red Lobster to a private equity firm. Thai Union, under Kenny’s direction, elbowed out other shrimp suppliers, “leaving Thai Union with an exclusive deal that led to higher costs to Red Lobster,” according to the filing. And if you’re the exclusive provider of shrimp to America’s biggest seafood chain, what’d be better than making that limited-time all-you-can-eat shrimp deal a permanent menu item? The all-you-can-eat shrimp deal alone didn’t doom Red Lobster, but boy did it do some damage at a time when the chain was already buckling.

“We’ve already turned it around,” Biden told CNN’s Erin Burnett in Racine, Wisconsin, where he was promoting new economic investments that could result in thousands of new jobs. Biden pointed to surveys showing many Americans view their own economic situation favorably, even as they look negatively on the nationwide economy. “The idea that we’re in a situation where things are so bad that folks – I mean, we’ve created more jobs. “Let me say it this way – when I started this administration, people were saying there’s going to be a collapse to the economy.
