I found out that our place of worship was burning around 2 a.m. Back when we were still St. Louis kids, and before we had kids of our own, my friends talked about turning the long-abandoned Catholic church into a skatepark. We sat in piles of wrists and legs and hormones to claim our space on the concrete. For over a decade, I chased achievement elsewhere: New York City, Los Angeles, Boston. But it was in returning home that I became a part of building something increasingly rare and meaningful: a community.

A video from 2018 of electrical explosions in Louisiana is being shared online as footage showing a “direct energy attack”. Direct energy weapons (DEW) are an emerging technology that uses concentrated electromagnetic energy to combat enemy forces and assets. People have claimed online that June 2023 wildfires in Canada, and August fires in Hawaii were caused by direct energy weapons. In another instance, social media users claimed a 2018 video of electrical explosions in Louisiana was evidence of DEWs in use in Hawaii (see Facebook users here), (here) and users on X, formerly known as Twitter, (here) (here). The video shows electrical explosions, not a “direct energy attack”, in Louisiana in 2018.

Since the November night in 1963 when the Cinerama Dome opened its doors with the premiere of “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” — drawing Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett and Ethel Merman to the sidewalks of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood — the theater, and the multiplex that later rose around it, has been a home for people who liked to watch movies and people who liked to make movies. Its distinctive geodesic dome, memorialized by Quentin Tarantino in the 2019 film “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” has become more retro than futuristic over the years, a reminder of a Technicolor past. Yet through it all, the complex known as the ArcLight Hollywood remained a cinephile favorite, with no commercials, no latecomers admitted and ushers who would, after introducing the upcoming show, promise to stay behind to make sure the sound and picture were “up to ArcLight standards.”But today the ArcLight Hollywood is closed, both a victim of the coronavirus pandemic and a symbol of a movie industry in turmoil, even in its own backyard. “There was nothing like the ArcLight — I was really surprised they closed,” said Amy Aquino, an actor who played Lt. Grace Billets in the television show “Bosch” and who had been drawn by the theater’s serious approach to moviegoing since seeing “Sideways” there in 2004.

In his first season with Baltimore in 2017, Collins finished with 973 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Overall, Collins played across five seasons in the NFL, tallying 483 carries for 1,997 yards and 18 touchdowns, with an additional 467 receiving yards in 50 career games. What shocks the crowd is not the apparent self-mutilation, but rather the fact that he appears to come away unscathed. It was a fresh addition to the staging, if still something of a letdown, a mild finale after 15 keyed-up hours. There were more tweaks to this “Ring.” The kidnapping and hoarding of children — an obsession with youthfulness; a sense of violence passed through generations — is one of Schwarz’s themes. You can tell Schwarz intended these revisions to heighten certain aspects of his interpretation. Last year, Cornelius Meister conducted the premiere because Pietari Inkinen had to drop out with a case of Covid late in the rehearsal process. Meister’s work ended up being blandly neutral, not quite compatible with Schwarz’s vivid, provocative staging.

In June, the collapse of the I-95 bridge in Philadelphia brought one of the city's busiest thoroughfares to a standstill. But in Philadelphia, I-95 reopened just 12 days later, restoring order on one of the busiest thoroughfares in the area. That quick work, Belmonte said, was one of many key decisions that got the reconstruction project moving rapidly. Meanwhile, congestion immediately spiked on the roadways near the I-95 collapse as emergency crews rushed to set up detours. Bartash said her travel time to Bucks County doubled to two and a half hours during the I-95 bridge reconstruction.

US singer Tony Bennett (Anthony Dominick Benedetto) performs on stage during an invitation only concert at the newly opened Encore Boston Harbor Casino in Everett, Massachusetts on August 8, 2019. The evening's performance resulted in the album, "Tony Bennett: MTV Unplugged," which won two Grammys, including album of the year. Bennett would win Grammys for his tributes to female vocalists ("Here's to the Ladies"), Billie Holiday ("Tony Bennett on Holiday"), and Duke Ellington ("Bennett Sings Ellington — Hot & Cool"). Has there ever been a more purely likable pop figure than Tony Bennett? Throughout a career that began in the 1940s, Bennett, who died on Friday at 96, maintained one mission, amiably and unswervingly. Instead, he let listeners — and, in recent decades, much younger duet partners — come to him, generation after generation. Bennett sang vintage pop standards, the pre-rock canon sometimes called the Great American Songbook. He was always unplugged — a simple fact that cannily recharged his career when he played “MTV Unplugged” in 1994.

In 1969, the year that “Slogan” came out, Birkin had a supporting role in Jacques Deray’s scorching, now cult thriller “La Piscine” alongside Alain Delon and Romy Schneider. Throwing yet another twist into her career is that after Gainsbourg, Birkin was in a relationship with the uncompromising filmmaker Jacques Doillon. It felt like a new Jane Birkin, inhabiting her physicality in a way that was almost dangerously unrestrained — and it earned her the first of three César Award nominations. The next year, she appeared in a Marivaux play directed by the influential Patrice Chéreau at his Nanterre theater. Despite her trepidation, her performance was a success, and Birkin continued to appear onstage, alternating, as was her wont, between boulevard fare and Euripides.

Wait times for rides and attractions at both resorts have shortened, according to analysts who track theme park attendance. Disney CEO Bob Iger attributed Disney World’s recent decline in wait times to an overall slump in Central Florida tourism. Iger told CNBC he did not have “long-term concerns” about Disney’s theme parks. For Universal’s Florida parks, every month since March has seen lower average wait times, according to the site. The community land trust model was largely used in rural communities until the 1980s, when Cincinnati became the first city to have a land trust operate in an urban neighborhood. In 1984, Senator Sanders, who was then the mayor of Burlington, created one to help address his city’s housing crisis. In 2020, the East Harlem El Barrio community land trust bought four apartment buildings that had fallen into disrepair from the city for one dollar each. Around the country, activists have also used community land trusts in nontraditional ways. TIRANA, July 3 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton on Monday met 12 children and men from Kosovo who were named after him in gratitude for his role in stopping the 1998-99 Kosovo War. Clinton, who served as president from 1993 to 2001, is regarded as a hero in Kosovo and Albania for launching NATO air strikes against Serbia's forces in 1999. The strikes halted the war and allowed nearly 1 million Albanian refugees in Kosovo to return to their homes. Others who spoke at the ceremony included Klinton Gashi, Klinton Bajgora and Klinton Ferizi. Clinton also met three girls who were named after his wife, Hillary Clinton, who served as U.S. secretary of state under former President Barack Obama.
