London CNN —Thousands of Taylor Swift’s UK fans have been duped into buying fake tickets for her upcoming Eras Tour concerts, according to a major British bank. With all UK dates now sold out, desperate fans are more likely to turn to resale sites and social media for tickets. Lloyds said it expects to see “many more fans fall victim to ticket scams in the coming weeks and months,” leading up to the first concert in Edinburgh, Scotland. According to UK Finance, a financial services industry association, Brits lost more than £40 million ($50 million) to “purchase scams,” including sales of fraudulent tickets, in the first half of last year. In November, the bank warned customers over ticket scams relating to Glastonbury, the popular outdoor music festival held annually in England in the summer.

The public cloud model has been a boon for organizations in terms of flexibility and scalability, and many organizations might think running AI workloads in the public cloud would be a logical choice. Organizations are beginning to see real advantages when they shift AI models closer to where the data originates for processing. Here are three reasons organizations should bring AI to their data. When both your AI model and data reside securely within your environment, you are in complete control, and better able to safeguard against unauthorized access and leaks. Gain cost efficienciesOperating AI technologies in your own environment can also help curb the potential for burgeoning costs associated with public cloud services.

For fiscal year 2023, credit card revenue totaled $619 million for Macy's and approximately $475 million for Nordstrom . The three companies do not break out how much of total credit card revenue comes from late fees. All of that adds up to dwindling credit card revenue for retailers, who can now expect to see it shrink even further. Target's credit card revenue fell to $667 million last year, down from $734 million in the prior fiscal year. Gap does not disclose credit card revenue, but its Chief Financial Officer, Katrina O'Connell, said on an earnings call that losses from late fees will be "largely offset in 2024 by other levers within our credit card program."

First, as the authors note, pulling all U.S. troops and intelligence assets from fragile conflict zones is a boon to globalized terror movements. Second, we must reckon with the underlying grievances that make violent anti-Western ideologies, including militant jihadism, attractive to so many in the first place. These include the ill effects of globalization, and a “rules-based” world order increasingly insensitive to the needs of developing countries and regions. Simply maintaining a military or intelligence presence in terror hot spots does nothing to reduce the sticky recruiting power of militant movements. Excluding one-time costs related to Levi's restructuring, the company reported earnings per share of 26 cents, ahead of Wall Street's estimates. The sales slump was primarily attributed to a shift in Levi's wholesale orders, which boosted profits by about $100 million in the year-ago period. For the last couple of years, Levi's has been moving away from wholesalers and doing more of its sales through its own stores and website. If Macy's store closures or other challenges to department stores affects Levi's business, she expects direct-to-consumer sales will offset those losses. During the quarter, sales of items like denim skirts, dresses and tops were up 19% in Levi's direct-to-consumer channel, said Gass.

The oilfield services company TechnipFMC has become a "grand slam" for investors after its stock broke out to multi-year highs and recently topped a $10 billion market value, according to Benchmark. "In baseball terms, this is a Grand Slam with the stock hitting the screens of momentum, value, large cap, and income investors," analyst Kurt Hallead told clients in a note Monday. It is also involved in emerging areas such as carbon capture and storage that are important for the energy transition. The oil industry is investing in carbon capture technology as a way to reduce emissions for heavy industries that are hard to decarbonize. Rystad Energy puts the total addressable market for carbon capture and storage (CCS) at $270 billion, Benchmark said.

Trump Attacks R.F.K. Jr., a Third-Party Wild Card

Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, pointed in particular to Mr. Kennedy’s views on climate change and the environment, writing on his social media site that Mr. Kennedy was more “radical Left” than Mr. Biden. Yet he also professed support for Mr. Kennedy’s campaign, claiming that Mr. Kennedy would be likely to siphon votes from Mr. Biden. “I love that he is running!” Mr. Trump concluded. Mr. Trump’s post, which came a day after Mr. Kennedy announced his running mate, underscores the political wild card that is Mr. Kennedy’s bid. Even as Mr. Trump asserted that Mr. Kennedy’s independent campaign would be a boon to his own effort to beat Mr. Biden, two Trump campaign officials said they had seen polling that showed Mr. Kennedy drawing support from independent voters in a way that could be equally detrimental to both Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden.

As Tax Day approaches, there are plenty of things small business owners should keep in mind when filing taxes this year. Since business tax filing is complex, most experts recommend small business owners work with a professional tax adviser rather than trying to file on their own or even with tax-filing software. Here are things small business owners should consider as the April 15 deadline looms. There’s also a tax credit based on employer contribution, up to $1,000 annually per employee, over the plan’s first five years. Designed to help small businesses keep employees during pandemic-era shutdowns, the generous credit let businesses file amended tax returns to claim the credit.

The Alibaba Group company logo is displayed on a screen at the New York Stock Exchange during morning trading on February 14, 2024 in New York City. Alibaba on Tuesday said it was scrapping a planned initial public offering for its smart logistics unit Cainiao, adding to recent woes for the former Chinese tech darling. The shelving of the planned IPO — which would have been a boon to Alibaba, handing it an injection of cash with a key exit deal — comes after deteriorating market conditions in China. In a press release Tuesday, Alibaba said that it was withdrawing its IPO and listing application for Cainiao, and would also buy the remaining shares of the company it does not already currently own. Cainiao, which Alibaba first launched in May 2013, provides warehousing and fulfillment services, last-mile delivery and pick-up posts, and reverse logistics to customers of Alibaba's Taobao and Tmall e-commerce sites.

The U.S. Investors Caught in the Scrum Over TikTok
  + stars: | 2024-03-26 | by ( Lauren Hirsch | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
For years, the U.S. investors who backed ByteDance, the Chinese internet company that owns TikTok, have wrestled with the complexities of owning a piece of a geopolitically fraught social media app. A bill to force ByteDance to sell TikTok is winding its way through the Senate after sailing through the House this month. In December, a Missouri pension board voted to divest from some Chinese investments, following political pressure from the state treasurer. The Beijing-based company has grown into one of the world’s most highly valued start-ups, worth $225 billion, according to CB Insights. That’s a boon, at least on paper, for U.S. investors who put money into ByteDance when it was a smaller company.

The market may see a new wave of stock splits, creating another growth catalyst for a market that wants to keep rallying, according to Strategas. The median gain of a stock 65 days post-split is 4.1%, compared to the S & P 500's median 2.7% gain during the same period. Stock splits do not change anything fundamentally about the company, but they generally make shares more attractive to the retail trader because of lower prices. Here are the highest-priced stocks in the S & P 500 that Strategas thinks investors could benefit from if they split. Another name on the list, pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly , last announced a 2-for-1 stock split in September 1997.
