The estate of minimalist contemporary artist Donald Judd filed a lawsuit against Kardashian this week, claiming the fashion and beauty mogul promoted “cheap knockoffs” of his furniture designs. “These Donald Judd tables are really amazing and totally blend in with the seats,” Kardashian says, moving a chair out to show the camera. Judd Foundation v Clements DesignAn artist and sculptor, Judd was known for his minimalist designs emphasizing clean whole shapes and industrial materials. “Efforts were made to resolve this issue amicably at the time and the Judd Foundation was unwilling to settle on reasonable terms. “Consumers will see the cheap knockoffs… and erroneously associate (the) low-grade pieces with the Donald Judd brand,” the lawsuit states.

Read previewThe foundation representing 20th Century artist Donald Judd is suing Kim Kardashian and her designers over a set of "knockoff" tables and chairs. "The tables and chairs shown in the Kardashian Video are not authentic Donald Judd pieces fabricated by Judd Foundation but were instead unauthorized knockoffs that were produced by Clements Design," the complaint said. "If you guys are furniture people — because I've really gotten into furniture lately — these Donald Judd tables are really amazing and totally blend in with the seats," she said. AdvertisementThe filing also includes alleged invoices from Clements Design showing line items for two tables and 24 chairs made of plywood "in the Style of Donald Judd." It was born out of an experience I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn't," Beyoncé wrote in a recent Instagram post. She was likely referring to a 2016 performance of her first country song, "Daddy Lessons," at the annual Country Music Awards. !," one user on social media platform X posted. Instead of letting those opinions deter her, Beyoncé spent five years crafting her country album, she wrote. "Because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of country music and studied our rich musical archive," she wrote.

With the release of “Cowboy Carter,” Beyoncé’s eighth solo album and the one that finds her exploring — and testing — the boundaries of country music, much of the early conversation has centered on whether the country music industry would rally around her. Rather than being feted with a welcome party, Beyoncé has been met largely with shrugs. Beyoncé is Black, and a woman, two groups that contemporary Nashville has consistently marginalized and shortchanged. Contemporary mainstream country music often feels like a closed loop of white male storytelling. Which is why whether or not Beyoncé and Nashville can find common cause is, in every way, a red herring.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump arrives for the start of his civil fraud trial at New York State Supreme Court on October 02, 2023 in New York City. Chubb was one of more than 30 companies that refused to craft a bond that would put the massive business fraud judgment on pause, attorneys for Trump said in a New York appeals court filing Monday. Appeal bonds aim to prevent the loser of a court judgment from using the appeals process to delay or avoid paying their penalties. But "within the past week," he said, Chubb reversed course and "notified Defendants that it could not accept real property as collateral." "Though disappointing, this decision was not surprising given that Chubb was the only surety willing to even consider accepting real estate as collateral," Garten said.

But a new nationwide study that analyzed data from 300 million home sales and 60,000 wind turbines finds turbines’ impact on home values is much lower than previously thought – about a 1% drop on average for a home with at least one wind turbine within six miles. Even for homes close to a turbine, the study finds the negative impact to property value “diminishes and eventually disappears” within a decade. Getting the answer required building a massive mapping database of the distance between US homes and wind turbines, accounting for changes in topography and other factors. The study also explored just how big wind turbines appear to the human eye. Much of the growth in wind turbines in the US has been on farmland in the Midwest, Great Plains states and Texas.

For Ytasha Womack, the Afrofuture Is Now

And as with many things Afrofuturistic, Ytasha Womack’s fingerprints are all over it. (In 2023, Ms. Womack published “Black Panther: A Cultural Exploration,” Marvel’s reference book examining the films’ influences.) Afrofuturism is a way of thinking about the future, with alternate realities based on perspectives of the African diaspora. People have used imagination to transform their circumstances, to move from one reality to another. And so to claim your imagination — to embrace it — can be a way of elevating your consciousness.

When it comes to fiction, humor is serious business. If tragedy appeals to the emotions, wit appeals to the mind. “You have to know where the funny is,” the writer Sheila Heti says, “and if you know where the funny is, you know everything.” Humor is a bulwark against complacency and conformity, mediocrity and predictability. With all this in mind, we’ve put together a list of 22 of the funniest novels written in English since Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22” (1961). That book presented a voice that was fresh, liberated, angry and also funny — about something American novels hadn’t been funny about before: war.

It's still not easy for me to admit it, but that night I used my pain to feed my professional ambition. In a previous job, burnout nearly killed me, and I vowed to never let ambition swallow me again. There's a fine line between the motivation needed to build a successful career and the uncontrolled ambition that ends in burnout. As I unpacked this predicament in therapy, I began to wonder: How did ambition become such a force in our world? In the ancient world, ambition was seen as a curse.

In short, the rent is too damn high — and it’s keeping inflation and interest rates elevated alongside it. We’ll see if they’re right on Tuesday morning when February’s CPI data is due out. “Shelter inflation has been a big focal point for the market,” they wrote in a note on Monday. “We remain confident that [rent prices] will flatline in 2024, rather than fall,” Capital Economics analyst Thomas Ryan wrote in a recent note. That means a current deceleration in rent prices won’t be fully factored into inflation data until February 2025.

That led Meyer to take a lesson with a golf pro on an indoor simulator, an experience that eventually led him and his investment firm, Enlighted Hospitality Investments, to make a $20 million minority investment in Five Iron Golf, an indoor golf and entertainment company. Five Iron Golf, founded in 2017, has grown as it has looked to appeal to several types of golfers, according to CEO Jared Solomon. "The core of Five Iron Golf is to be the best place for the serious golfer as well as the entertainment-type person," Solomon said. But the amount of people who are only playing golf on courses is decreasing, down 9% from the previous year. In fact, there are more players now playing at golf entertainment venues like Topgolf , standalone driving ranges, and businesses like Five Iron Golf with simulator and screen golf setups than there are players playing on a course, according to the NGF data.

Gas prices have surged to four-month highs. Don’t panic
  + stars: | 2024-03-11 | by ( Matt Egan | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +5 min
A gas price spike might be the last thing President Joe Biden needs to convince skeptical voters about his economic agenda. But experts say there is no reason to panic about gas prices, at least not yet. Gas prices always rise at this time of the year. Of course, there’s always the potential for unexpected events that could spike gas prices. If anything, De Haan said the earlier-than-expected jump in gas prices this year could cause prices to peak sooner than usual.
