NEW YORK — Shirley Eikhard, the singer-songwriter who supplied songs for Cher, Emmylou Harris, Anne Murray, Chet Atkins and found lasting fame penning Bonnie Raitt‘s Grammy-winning 1991 hit “Something to Talk About,” has died. Eikhard died Thursday at Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, Ontario, due to complications from cancer, said publicist Eric Alper. The blues-rock smash hit “Something to Talk About” was written in 1985 and Eikhard had offered it to Murray and other artists, who all declined to record it. Then years later Raitt left a message on Eikhard’s phone saying she she’d just recorded it. Raitt said later she’d discovered the song on a demo Eikhard had sent and admired it.

Ocean Oasis' Gaia system has been designed to use wave power to desalinate water. In a statement Monday, Oslo-headquartered Ocean Oasis said its wave-powered prototype device, which it described as being an "offshore floating desalination plant," was called Gaia. The main investor in Ocean Oasis is Grieg Maritime Group, which is headquartered in Bergen, Norway. According to the Canary Islands Institute of Technology, the islands have been "a pioneer in the production of desalinated water at affordable cost." Describing the Canary Islands' "water singularities," it refers to a "structural water deficit due to low rainfall, high soil permeability and aquifer overexploitation."

The energy firms behind the rig aren’t prospecting for oil or gas. They are searching for a place to stash vast amounts of the greenhouse gases emitted by industrial facilities across Europe. The Northern Lights project—a $2.6 billion joint venture of Shell PLC , TotalEnergies SE, Equinor ASA and the Norwegian government—is one of almost 200 carbon-sequestration projects now in operation or in development around the world, according to the Global CCS Institute, a think tank that promotes carbon capture. When completed in 2024, Northern Lights will be the world’s biggest effort to sequester, or store, carbon dioxide underground.

While application of hydrogen peroxide can reach the bloodstream, he explained, it will not reach to a tumor far enough to have any helpful effect – in fact, "large amounts of ingested hydrogen peroxide are known to be toxic and cause internal burns." “The most highly touted ‘hyperoxygenating’ agents are hydrogen peroxide, germanium sesquioxide, and ozone,” the review explains. There is no evidence that rubbing hydrogen peroxide on the skin, consuming it, or using other unproven methods to increase oxygen in the body will have an effect on cancer cells.

I've budgeted $50,000 for travel in 2019, and I'm not the least bit sorry. That said, we also choose to spend on travel over other things, like living in a bigger home or driving fancier cars. Travel is a learning experienceMy kids are 8 and 10 years old, and our travel experiences have exposed them to so much history. The bottom lineWhile $50,000 is a lot of money to spend on travel (or anything, really), I don't regret our travel splurges at all.
