A letter signed by Airlines for America, Boeing (BA.N) Airbus (AIR.PA), Embraer (EMBR3.SA), aviation unions and others backed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) request to mandate an extension of mitigation by wireless carriers as airlines retrofit radio altimeters. FAA acting Administrator Billy Nolen urged a delay in some 5G C-Band transmissions from smaller operators over aviation safety concerns. The aviation industry letter said that since January "the FAA has documented over 100 FAA incidents of potential 5G interference ... The FAA and White House did not immediately comment. The aviation letter Tuesday said "inter-agency government progress appears to be at a stalemate, while stakeholders are doing their part to address these issue."

REUTERS/Imad CreidiLONDON, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Airbus (AIR.PA) and Qatar Airways will resume a London court battle on Friday that thrusts their relations with regulators into the spotlight in a dispute over the safety of grounded A350 jets. Experts say it is the first time such a major international contractual and safety dispute in aviation, involving claims now approaching $2 billion, has ended up in open court. Airbus has told the court it would seek to show Qatar Airways "colluded" with the QCAA to have jets unnecessarily grounded to win compensation, a charge the airline denies. In a publicly available witness statement submitted to court in an October hearing, Qatar Airways cited what it called the "particular closeness" of ties between Airbus and its own regulator, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
WASHINGTON, Nov 1 (Reuters) - The senior leaders at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Commerce Department's telecommunications unit met to discuss aviation safety concerns raised by new 5G C-Band deployments, two sources briefed on the meeting told Reuters on Tuesday. FAA acting Administrator Billy Nolen and Alan Davidson, who heads the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), met virtually for about 30 minutes on Monday, the sources said. Last month, Nolen wrote the NTIA seeking a delay in some 5G C-Band transmissions from smaller operators over aviation safety concerns. MEXICO CITY, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Mexico is making progress towards recovering its Category 1 aviation rating, but the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not yet approved its plan as claimed earlier by the Mexican government, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Friday. Mexico's foreign ministry said earlier in a statement that U.S. authorities approved Mexico's government plan to recover its Category 1 aviation rating, revoked roughly a year and a half ago. Mexico expects to complete its action plan in December as part of its bid to recover the U.S.-issued aviation rating, the statement said. It added the FAA will visit Mexico and set a final audit date in January, in order to recover the Category 1 status before mid-2023. The FAA downgraded Mexico's aviation safety rating in May 2021, saying it fell short of regulating its air carriers "in accordance with minimum international safety standards."
Oct 25 (Reuters) - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wants the U.S. telecommunications regulator agency to ensure a delay in some 5G C-Band transmissions from smaller operators. Acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen said the agency wants the Federal Communications Commission to mandate voluntary mitigations that AT&T (T.N) and Verizon agreed to earlier this year mandated for 19 smaller telecoms and other spectrum holders. In a previously unreported letter dated Friday, Nolen cited industry data established "aviation safety would be compromised if the U.S. government does not codify certain additional operating limits in the 5G C-Band environment." Oct 25 (Reuters) - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wants the U.S. telecommunications regulatory agency to ensure a delay in some 5G C-Band transmissions from smaller operators. The letter was sent to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel was copied. The NTIA, FAA and FCC did not immediately comment. The FAA letter said the voluntarily mitigations by AT&T and Verizon "have resulted in the safe deployment of more than 50,000 wireless antennas across the nation." Nolen's letter seeks near-term conversations at senior levels between the NTIA, FAA and FCC.
Oct 24 (Reuters) - A Korean Air Lines Co Ltd (003490.KS) jet with 173 people on board overshot the runway at Cebu International Airport in the Philippines late Sunday, the airline said, adding that there were no injuries and all passengers had evacuated safely. The Airbus SE (AIR.PA) A330 widebody flying from Seoul to Cebu had tried to land twice in poor weather before it overran the runway on the third attempt at 23:07 local time, Korean Air said in a statement on Monday. "Passengers have been escorted to three local hotels and an alternative flight is being arranged," the airline said of flight KE361. Korean Air President Keehong Woo issued a letter of apology regarding the flight on the airline's website, noting that a thorough investigation would be performed with local aviation authorities and Korean authorities to determine the cause. Korean Air has not had a fatal passenger crash since 1997, according to Aviation Safety Network, a website that compiles aviation accidents.

"We want to see the FAA come out with its set of certification rules, quickly. Honeywell's collaboration with Supernal is its first with an air taxi firm established by an automaker. The company, which is a big supplier to Boeing Co (BA.N) and Airbus SE (AIR.PA), also has investments in other eVTOL firms - Lilium, Vertical Aerospace and Volocopter. The company expects the overall market for air taxis to be about $120 billion per year by 2030, Fymat added.
SEOUL, Oct 8 (Reuters) - North Korea said on Saturday its missile tests are for self-defence against direct U.S. military threats and they have not harmed the safety of neighbouring countries and regions. North Korea carried out six missile launches in 12 days as of this week, including launching an intermediate-range missile over Japan on Tuesday. "Our missile tests are a normal, planned self-defence measure to protect our country's security and regional peace from direct U.S. military threats," said state media KCNA, citing an aviation administration spokesperson. The message was in response to the International Civil Aviation Organization Council condemning North Korea's missile launches for posing a serious safety risk to international civil aviation, KCNA said. The United States also announced new sanctions on Friday in response to North Korea's latest missile launches.
The walkout by security staff has resulted in a high three-digit number of flight cancellations, German airports association ADV said. Some 160 of them were at Duesseldorf airport, accounting for more than half of the planned 290 departures and arrivals, the airport said. At Cologne/Bonn, 94 out of 136 flights were called off, and Berlin airport's website also showed many cancelled flights. Tuesday's walkout will hit Germany's busiest airport, Frankfurt, which handled around 2.1 million passengers last month. Labour union Verdi is demanding that employers raise the wages of airport security staff by at least 1 euro an hour for the next 12 months and that staff in different parts of Germany earn the same.
