DeSantis trails Republican front-runner Donald Trump by more than 20 points nationally in the 2024 primary race. But a Republican lobbyist in Washington who represents several Fortune 500 companies said DeSantis’ approach is sound for winning the Republican primary. “DeSantis is doing what he’s doing because it's good politics,” said the lobbyist, who asked to remain unidentified so as to not take sides in the presidential race. A company spokesman told Reuters that "Anheuser-Busch InBev takes our responsibility to our shareholders, employees, distributors and customers seriously." On the trail, DeSantis has accused the Food and Drug Administration of being “captured” by the pharmaceutical industry.

New York CNN —Beer maker Anheuser-Busch said Wednesday that it will lay off positions across its US corporate staff. The company’s website says that it employs “more than 19,000 employees nationwide.” Two percent of that figure would number about 380 positions. “Today we took the very difficult but necessary decision to eliminate a number of positions across our corporate organization,” said Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth. “While we never take these decisions lightly, we want to ensure that our organization continues to be set for future long-term success.”In May, Mexican lager Modelo Especial dethroned Bud Light as America’s top-selling beer, a title that Bud had largely held for more than two decades. The beer’s brand had been struggling due to the Dylan Mulvaney controversy, when the transgender influencer posted an Instagram photo of a custom can that Bud Light had sent her.

Activist Commentary: Elliott is a very successful and astute activist investor, particularly in the technology sector. Constellation Brands produces and markets beer, wine and spirits, but it's essentially a beer company with 85% of its revenue coming from beer sales. Moreover, it is not just a niche beer business anymore. First, the company has traded at a discount because of the dual-class share structure that allowed the Sands family to control Constellation. This leaves a core beer business that can now be operated without unnecessary distractions.

Ice cream is “the ultimate comfort food.”Drinkers swapped a pint for a scoop, and for ice cream makers, Prohibition was a boon. “In fact they say that the ice cream business is bound to increase in volume from year to year as more people are using ice cream since the coming in of nation-wide prohibition and the going out of the saloon.”The interest in ice cream continued in World War II, buoyed by the government’s use of the frozen dessert to help boost morale. Margaret Bourke-White/The LIFE Picture Collection/Shutterstock“We built pop-up ice cream factories on the front lines, delivered individual ice cream cartons to foxholes and spent more than a million dollars on a floating ice cream barge that patrolled the Pacific delivering ice cream,” Siegel said. Bud Light posted a meme on Sunday that seemed to poke fun at the brand's handling of backlash it's faced. The backlash began in April, after Bud Light partnered with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. A video clip posted on Sunday to Bud Light's Twitter and Instagram shows a woman eating a watermelon, a Bud Light can on a picnic table behind her while severe wind whips trash and sends people scurrying. Conservatives are calling for Bud Light boycotts, while advocates are asking the brand to support the transgender community. The recent post from Bud Light, though, seemed to meme-ify Bud Light's own handling of the backlash — silently waiting out the storm of outcry.

July 10 (Reuters) - Constellation Brands' (STZ.N) Modelo Especial was the top-selling beer brand in the United States for a second consecutive month in June, after first dethroning Anheuser-Busch InBev's (ABI.BR) Bud Light in May. Modelo Especial was the top-selling beer brand for the four weeks ended July 1, with an 8.7% share of overall beer sales through retail stores for the period, while Bud Light came in second with a 7% share, according to consulting company Bump Williams, which sources data from NielsenIQ. Sales of Bud Light and Budweiser dropped 28% and 11.7%, respectively, from a year earlier, while Modelo Especial sales rose 8.5%. Azer added that consumers had quickly figured out AB InBev's other beer brands like Michelob Ultra and Natural Light, which are also seeing a fall in sales. Before the backlash, Natural Light was gaining due to cost-conscious consumers opting for cheaper six-packs.

New York CNN —Dylan Mulvaney on Thursday broke her silence about the fallout that occurred after the trans influencer made two Instagram posts sponsored by Bud Light earlier this year. Bud Light’s sponsorship of an April 1 Instagram post by Mulvaney set off a firestorm of anti-trans backlash and calls for a boycott. But later it released a vague statement from the CEO that failed to offer support for Mulvaney or the trans community. The Bud Light backlash also coincided with anti-LGBTQ+ campaigns against other big brands, including Target. “I think the conversation surrounding Bud Light has moved away from beer, and the conversation has become divisive, and Bud Light really does not belong there, Bud Light should be about bringing people together,” Whitworth said.

With the summer sales season well underway — the four months between May and August make up as much as 40 percent of annual beer sales — the question swirling around Bud Light is whether the slump is temporary or the new normal. “Here we are about 10 weeks into it, and we’re still seeing double-digit declines in volumes nationally,” said Bump Williams, who runs the consulting firm that bears his name. A third of distributors believe the impact on Bud Light will be permanent.
