When it comes to investing in sectors such as financials and energy under Trump, Bianco believes that size matters. A Harris presidency would benefit the renewable energy industry, according to Amanda Rebello, head of Xtrackers ETF sales at DWS. That's primarily because a Harris presidency would result in more stringent fiscal policy than a Trump one. The national debt is also likely to rise faster under a Trump presidency compared to a Harris one. "We forecast that data center capacity will need to more than double by 2028 to meet our unconstrained forecast for power consumed by data centers." Government incentives, including the Inflation Reduction Act, have encouraged individuals and private ownership groups to invest in clean energy systems. The renewable energy industry's rapid expansion in the U.S. in some cases is occurring without traditional utility protocols and regulations. The boom in renewable energy has also led manufacturers of products and services to ramp up their offerings. Inverters connected to the internet, in particular, could be controlled by hackers to reduce output or overheat home energy systems. In this photo illustration, bottles of Heineken beer are displayed on July 31, 2023 in San Anselmo, California. Heineken shares opened nearly 7% lower on Monday, after the brewing giant's first-half profit growth came in weaker than analysts had expected. In an update that had been keenly-awaited by analysts, Heineken revised its operating profit organic growth forecast for the year to a range between 4% to 8%. The major miss was in Europe, which saw just 0.2% profit growth versus an expectation of 15.1%, largely because of increased promotional spending in a competitive market, Barclays said. Heineken said it "consolidated leadership" in low and no-alcohol beer sales, with Heineken 0.0 — a no-alcohol beer — up 14%.

In what appears to be a deeply unfair election riddled with irregularities, Venezuelan’s authoritarian president, Nicolás Maduro, seems to have survived once again. The election was a crucial test of the durability of the new brand of authoritarianism gripping the Americas — and it has proved that the movement may not fade away anytime soon. Guatemala had a close call last year, with the attorney general’s office attempting to prevent a peaceful transition of power. Venezuela’s election is a fulcrum moment for the Americas. Despite high turnout, there were numerous reports of voting irregularities, voter intimidation and problems at voting centers.

One of the most convenient methods for mobile phone users to log into apps — and one many companies rely on to grant access — is the one-time password, or OTP, often shared by text. Consumers are being urged to be mindful of the different types of one-time passwords, and the relative security risks versus benefits that each offers. Authenticator apps can still be vulnerable to some types of attacks like "adversary in the middle" but they're still safer than SMS, Allan said. In recent months, she has also become more directly involved in discussions with global leaders on the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

CNN —Insurers have begun calculating the financial damage caused by last week’s devastating CrowdStrike software glitch that crashed computers, canceled flights and disrupted hospitals all around the globe — and the picture isn’t pretty. The estimates come the same day that CrowdStrike issued a preliminary report on how it inadvertently caused the widespread IT meltdown. Numerous Fortune 500 companies use CrowdStrike’s cybersecurity software to detect and block hacking threats. Only a small portion, around 10% to 20%, may be covered by cybersecurity insurance policies, Parametrix added. The opposition campaign has re-energized its bases, and the candidature of Edmundo González has attracted widespread support in Venezuela and abroad. A chance to rebuild Venezuela’s economic power“On the ballot is how long it’ll take to fix Venezuela’s economy,” said Asdrubal Oliveros, founder of Caracas firm Ecoanalitica, in his weekly podcast on July 8. Once the fifth-largest economy in Latin America, today Venezuela’s economy has shrunk to the equivalent of a medium-sized city, smaller than say, Milwaukee, according to data from the IMF. As Venezuela’s economy has crumbled, around eight million Venezuelans have already fled their country, many of them scattered across South America.

Read previewAs we near the November elections, investors are increasingly focused on what a Donald Trump win would mean for global markets and economies. The charts below show how stock sectors moved in the 24 hours after the debate and how a Trump administration might impact sectors with varying regulatory burdens. If Trump wins, investors will need to cut through the noise and at least understand how he might impact different parts of the economy. Where monetary policy is concerned, leading economist Christophe Barraud believes a Trump administration could pressure the Federal Reserve to be very accommodative on rates, in other words, steeper or sooner cuts. It expects a Trump Administration to allow LNG export permits after the Biden Administration attempted to halt them.
