You'll often hear Jim Cramer say that we don't want to violate our cost basis when adding to one of our Club positions. When Jim says that our discipline forbids us from "violating our cost basis," he means we want every new buy in a stock we own to be below the weighted average cost basis. As a result, each new buy should serve to reduce the overall weighted average cost basis of the position. Most brokerage tools calculate this for you, usually in the "cost" column or "cost basis" column in the dashboard. We don't get hung up on how that might affect cost basis because the reason for selling takes precedence.

REUTERS/Carlo Allegri/File PhotoSummarySummary Companies Deal raises concerns- regulatorAcquisition threatens Xbox and PlayStation rivalryMicrosoft says committed to addressing concernsLONDON, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Britain's antitrust regulator said Microsoft's (MSFT.O) $69-billion purchase of "Call of Duty" maker Activision Blizzard (ATVI.O) could harm gamers by weakening the rivalry between Xbox and Sony's PlayStation. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said the deal could result in higher prices, fewer choices and less innovation for millions of gamers, as well as stifling competition in the growing cloud gaming market. In December, the United States moved to block the deal, citing Microsoft's record of hoarding valuable gaming content. Microsoft, which has pledged to keep "Call of Duty" on PlayStation, said it would address the CMA's concerns.
What matters in a real bull market, though, is the company and the sector it's in, not the S & P 500 . So, the first lesson is to understand that in a bull market the buyer gets the benefit of the doubt, not the seller. Secondly, in a bull market you have to fight the temptation to trade down. So, again, know that in a bull market the sellers better have a lot of conviction or else they will lose the opportunity to make money. It's our job to keep you from doing so by helping you to navigate this bull market that started in October 2022 — a bull market that almost no one seems to recognize except us.

Global comparable sales at Starbucks rose 5%, compared with analysts' average estimate of a 6.75% rise, according to Refinitiv IBES data. Starbucks reiterated its previous guidance of global comparable sales growth of 7% to 9% for its fiscal 2023.

REUTERS/Carlo Allegri/File PhotoBRUSSELS, Dec 20 (Reuters) - EU antitrust regulators have asked game developers and distributors if they think Microsoft (MSFT.O) will block their access to Activision Blizzard's (ATVI.O) games once it has bought the company, an EU document seen by Reuters shows. "Please specify which partial exclusivity strategy or strategies you believe Microsoft would have the ability to deploy with respect to Activision Blizzard's console games after Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard," the questionnaire asked. The EU antitrust watchdog asked if such strategies would include degrading the quality or interoperability of Activision's games available on competing consoles or providing upgrades to Activision's games only on Xbox. Regulators asked what advantages and disadvantages game developers and publishers and console game distributors would face if a game is distributed exclusively on one console.

Carlo Allegri | ReutersIt may not have increased by much, and it's rising from an all-time low, but for the first time during his presidency, Joe Biden's approval rating on Main Street has gone up. The CNBC|SurveyMonkey Small Business Survey for Q4 2022 was conducted Nov. 9-Nov. 16 among nearly 2,600 small business owners. Biden's approval rating still remains heavily partisan: Just 8% of small business owners who are Republican approve of President Biden. "This is the first quarter of Biden's presidency where we've seen any improvement whatsoever in Biden's approval among small business owners, so it's important because it breaks the trend," said Laura Wronski, senior manager of research science at Momentive. Small business owners are more confident this quarter than last, with the overall survey reading moving up modestly and fears of recession declining quarter over quarter.

Nov 14 (Reuters) - The United Nations General Assembly on Monday called for Russia to be held accountable for its conduct in Ukraine, voting to approve a resolution recognizing that Russia must be responsible for making reparations to the country. General Assembly resolutions are nonbinding, but they carry political weight. Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.N. Sergiy Kyslytsya told the General Assembly before the vote that Russia has targeted everything from factories to residential buildings and hospitals. Fourteen countries voted against the resolution on Monday, including Russia, China and Iran, while 73 abstained, including Brazil, India and South Africa. In March, 141 members of the General Assembly voted to denounce Russia's invasion, and 143 in October voted to condemn Moscow's attempted annexation of parts of Ukraine.
The system, dubbed MARS or Methane Alert and Response System, will build on a pledge signed by 119 countries since last year to cut methane emissions by 30% this decade, a goal scientists say is crucial to averting extreme climate change. "The Methane Alert and Response System is a big step in helping governments and companies deliver on this important, short-term climate goal," Inger Andersen, executive eirector of the U.N. "Reducing methane emissions can make a big and rapid difference, as this gas leaves the atmosphere far quicker than carbon dioxide." UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory will then share information about the leak with whoever is responsible in the hope they will find the cause of the leak and repair it. U.S. Special Climate Envoy John Kerry, who helped spearhead the Global Methane Pledge to cut methane emissions last year, called the new system "critical" to climate efforts.

Nov 5 (Reuters) - Inter Milan will need to show character to beat a Juventus side stung by their Champions League exit, manager Simone Inzaghi said on Saturday. Eighth-placed Juve trail sixth-placed Inter by just two points, with both sides in need of win in Turin on Sunday to stay on the trail of leaders Napoli. Inter and Juve head into the game on the back of contrasting Champions League group-stage campaigns. "We know that it is a team which has been knocked out of the Champions League, they will be even more dangerous," Inzaghi told reporters. Inzaghi said Inter and Juve share some similarities, as both sides are recovering from a poor start to the season and have won four out of their last five Serie A matches.
REUTERS/Carlo AllegriOct 26 (Reuters) - Brooks, the running shoe unit of billionaire Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N), has settled a lawsuit accusing the retailer Brooks Brothers of diluting its reputation and confusing customers by marketing athletic wear with the "Brooks" name, but without "Brothers." It objected last year to Brooks Brothers' launch of "faux" athletic wear, saying it threatened to "demoralize" consumers who associate the Brooks name with high-quality athletic wear, and to Brooks Brothers' "Back to Brooks" marketing campaign. Brooks Brothers countered that the lawsuit was an "ill-conceived ploy" to evade the coexistence agreement, and demanded Brooks' compliance. Founded in 1818, Brooks Brothers is the oldest continually-operating U.S. clothing retailer. The case is Brooks Sports Inc v SPARC Group LLC, U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington, No.

REUTERS/Carlo AllegriNEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters) - The New York City Marathon is embracing livestreaming in a fight to create a new generation of athletics fans this year, becoming the first marathon major to broadcast the race live on its mobile app, organisers said on Wednesday. The marathon on Nov. 6 will already be broadcast to some 530 million homes worldwide but organisers hope the livestream will reach existing fans abroad without access to a traditional telecast. "So if you have content and you have valuable content, you have to migrate where the audience is." For Des Linden, a two-time Olympian who won the Boston Marathon in 2018, the appeal of livestreaming in athletics is simple.
REUTERS/Carlo Allegri/File PhotoOct 26 (Reuters) - U.S. doctors are warning that a surge in cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is coinciding with an increase in COVID transmission and an earlier-than-normal flu season, raising the specter of a "tripledemic" of respiratory illness this winter. In particular, RSV infections among young children are reportedly filling some U.S. hospitals to capacity. Older children and most adults typically experience mild, cold-like symptoms. In the meantime, it is important "for everyone to get up to date on their COVID and flu vaccines," Varma said. Part of the increase in RSV cases is due to the relaxation of COVID-precautions, such as masking and social distancing, which reduced rates of both RSV and flu during the pandemic, Varma said.
