CNN —Several people are hurt and a courthouse in Santa Maria, California, is closed following “a bomb explosion” Wednesday morning, officials say. “We are providing them with the highest level of care and support,” Doucette told CNN earlier in the day. At least five game show contestants were "shamelessly exploited" and subjected to "unreasonable, unsafe" working conditions on Amazon Prime's "Beast Games,” a California civil action said this week. In neighboring Orange County, firefighters used bulldozers, helicopters and planes to control a rapidly spreading blaze called the Airport Fire that started Monday and spread to about 3 square miles in only a few hours. Concialdi said the fire was burning away from homes in Orange County, but there are 36 recreational cabins in the area. A 57-year-old man died from heat exposure after walking in Death Valley National Park, authorities confirmed Monday, making it the second heat-related death in the area this summer. A motorcyclist was declared dead from suspected heat exposure in Death Valley in July, while another was hospitalized for severe heat illness. Two Los Angeles-area beaches were shut down for 48 hours after thousands of gallons of sewage spilled into a creek — but that did not seem to bother the crowd of dog walkers, runners, yogis and surfers enjoying the beach early on Tuesday before the day’s heat set in. An estimated 15,000 gallons of sewage — about the volume a backyard swimming pool holds — were discharged on Saturday afternoon in a neighborhood roughly seven miles east of the Santa Monica Pier, entering Ballona Creek, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said in a news release. “The cause of the sewage discharge was a broken water main that pushed sand into the sewer, causing the blockage,” the agency said.

CNN —Esta TerBlanche, the South African actress best known for her role as Gillian Andrassy Lavery on “All My Children,” has died, according to her manager Annie Spoliansky. TerBlanche died on Thursday in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office online records show. Spoliansky told CNN in a statement on Sunday that “Esta was such a kind, loving, giving, and caring person.”“She cared so deeply for all people and animals,” Spoliansky’s statement read. She later reprised her role in one episode in 2011 and appeared in over 100 episodes. Cameron Mathison, who played TerBlanche’s on-screen husband Ryan Lavery in “All My Children” paid tribute to his co-star on his Instagram Stories on Sunday.
