Guyana, the tiny South American nation, is giving $2,000 to every household in the country. AdvertisementThe world's fastest-growing economy is handing the equivalent of $2,000 to every household as it works to share its newfound oil wealth and soften the sting of higher living costs. Its oil fund held over $1.7 trillion of assets at the end of June, or more than $300,000 per Norwegian citizen. Sharing the wealthGuyana's $2,000 payment to households "sounds like great news," Karl Widerquist, a philosophy professor at Georgetown University-Qatar and the author of several books about universal basic income (UBI) told BI. Guyana's one-off, unconditional cash grant is a "positive step," Cleo Goodman, the basic income lead at the Autonomy Institute think tank, told BI.

In yet another incident, crowds of angry drivers gather outside an apartment complex, demanding justice for a fellow delivery driver said to be bullied by security guards there. They’re among the many episodes of explosive confrontations across China involving delivery workers widely circulated on Chinese social media, showing people stretched to the breaking point. As China’s economy grapples with a raft of setbacks, from a protracted property crisis to a lack of consumer spending, delivery workers are taking a beating. That eats into delivery workers’ income as their pay is usually tied to a commission based on the price of the order. In 2019, a delivery driver died after he was hit by a tree knocked over by strong winds in Beijing, according to state media Global Times.

More significant to the political dynamics at play, however, is how the civilian overseas vote has eclipsed military voters abroad. “As it turns out, there are more overseas civilian voters than there are military voters,” said Michael McDonald, a University of Florida political science professor. Netflix makes money. Netflix is actually bringing in so much money that it is turning a profit, while its competitors struggle to break even. And Netflix financed all that cash incineration by taking on many billions of dollars in debt. In 2019, Netflix had negative cash flow of $3.3 billion. That doesn't mean Netflix is going to go hog-wild on spending now that its thesis has been borne out.

The creator and marketing company Triller is finally trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker ILLR. The company went public via a reverse merger with a Hong Kong-based company called AGBA. A reverse merger occurs when a private company goes public by acquiring a publicly listed company. That didn't come to fruition, and in December 2021, the company announced plans to complete a reverse merger with a company called Seachange International.
