House Majority Whip Tom Emmer is considered the leading candidate, but he has a complicated relationship with Trump. But the mood of Vermeer and many other global producers has turned sour on China. Rather than expand in China, these companies are directing new investments to other low-cost countries such as Vietnam and India. Ryan Gunnigle, CEO of Atlanta-based toy maker Kids2, said he is continuing to invest in his China factories, adding both automation and new capacity. The CEO of Danby Appliances, a Canadian company that sells over half of its products in the U.S., got 85% of its goods from Chinese factories five years ago.

Former President Donald Trump is facing four separate indictments at both state and federal levels. WSJ breaks down each of the indictments and what they mean for his 2024 presidential campaign. Photo Illustration: Annie ZhaoJustice might be blind, but the two separate federal prosecutions of former President Donald Trump are showing how differently judges mete it out, coloring the pace and tenor of the high-profile cases months before they come to trial. In a courthouse blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the judge presiding over Trump’s trial on charges of conspiring to reverse the 2020 presidential election agreed this week with prosecutors arguing that the former president’s attacks on the special counsel team and potential witnesses threatened the integrity of the case and should be restricted. When Trump’s lawyer said existing limits on Trump’s contact with witnesses sufficed, the judge, Tanya Chutkan , laughed.

CNBC Daily Open brings investors up to speed on everything they need to know, no matter where they are. What you need to know todayThe bottom lineInvestors shrugged off Fed minutes that tilted hawkish and a hotter-than-expected PPI report to give markets a fourth consecutive winning session. Unfortunately, September's PPI report came in surprisingly hot. It's true the PPI report focuses on producer prices, while the Fed tends to scrutinize the consumer side of the equation more. Investors could be feeling defiant — or wanting to seize the opportunity to snap up stocks at relatively cheaper prices — after September's stocks slump.

Two candidates, GOP Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio, have already launched campaigns. He’s not the first GOP speaker to think so. But in this political climate, any Republican speaker who has to rely on Democratic votes is critically weakened and probably can’t last long.
