It’s not hard to conclude that former President Donald Trump himself makes it nearly impossible to have the type of debate Vance and Walz participated in Tuesday night. But Trump has never participated in a debate that didn’t devolve into something more pugilistic and even immature and juvenile at times. Going into this debate, I assumed that both vice presidential nominees would be more focused on the tops of the tickets. It's an interesting decision given how it seems as if the Trump campaign team desperately wants to re-attach Biden’s unpopular brand to Harris. I think Trump and his team are convinced Harris needs another debate more than Trump does.

Before we get started, it's important to point out that I believe that broader equity markets remain in a secular bull market with global central banks' easing monetary policy amid a backdrop of a boom in artificial intelligence that carries equity markets significantly higher in coming quarters. But the key in my opinion was that real interest rates were going higher. The way I'm defining 'real interest rates' is the prevailing nominal yield on a bond, the 10-year Treasury in this example, adjusted by the expected 10-year inflation level. Put simply, real interest rates are how much you actually earn on a fixed income investment after adjusting for inflation. So my outlook is that gold will continue to rally alongside equity markets.

As a result of that excitement, China ETFs are dominating the list of top performing funds in September, according to FactSet. The iShares MSCI China ETF (MCHI) was up about 22% on the month, while the KraneSharesCSI China Internet ETF (KWEB) was up more than 32%. Other top performers include the Global X MSCI China Consumer Discretionary ETF (CHIQ) and the Invesco Golden Dragon China ETF (PGJ) , with September gains of roughly 32% and 30%, respectively. The MSCI China Index's total annualized return during that period is under 1%. The average here is a gain of +78% over 176 trading days vs. a decline of -42% over 165 trading days," the note continued.

CNN —An 18-year-old has filed a lawsuit over the ownership of the ball Shohei Ohtani made baseball history with when he became the inaugural member of the 50-50 club. The ball had been put up for auction by auctioneers Goldin, with bids starting at $500,000 and collectors able to purchase it privately outright for $4.5 million. Both Belanski and Kelvin Ramirez indicated on social media that they intended to sell the ball, per the filing. In December 2002, a San Francisco judge ordered the two men to sell the ball and split the proceeds. The ball was eventually sold to comic book creator and producer Todd McFarlane who paid $450,000 for it.

Despite Aurora becoming a regular talking point at his rallies, a Trump campaign spokesperson declined to specify when or if the former president would visit the city. But Aurora has some important differences: It has a much larger population and has long been diverse. The Chinese central bank unrolled the most significant stimulus program since the COVID-19 pandemic and Chinese equities are starting to show signs that the long history of underperformance relative to western equities could possibly be on borrowed time. The name that has already demonstrated leadership that we want to focus on should this move into Chinese names continues is Tencent Holdings (TCEHY) . Before we get further into the company specifics it's important to reiterate that Chinese equities have under-performed U.S. equities since 2007. The goal of the program according to Chinese officials is to return the economy to a 5% growth rate. Turning to the focus company Tencent Holdings (TCHEY) is a multinational technology conglomerate listed on the Hong Kong exchange since 2004.

While it was an asset to Biden in polling against Trump, it appears to be a much bigger advantage for Harris. And in this new NBC poll, Harris’ advantage was just under 20 points. It’s obvious at this point that Trump will win men by close to double digits, ditto with Harris among women. But many voters have seen "Vice President Kamala Harris" as a fresher candidate, including those who previously viewed Trump as a better steward of the economy. That would spell doom for Democrats' Senate majority.

The Federal Reserve's move to start cutting interest rates bodes well for dividend-paying stocks, and Morgan Stanley thinks several companies are poised to join their ranks. "Equity investors are seeking durable, higher yielding dividends as market volatility is expected to continue throughout the easing cycle," wrote Morgan Stanley strategist Todd Castagno in a report last Friday. Morgan Stanley drew up a list of companies that might have what it takes to start paying dividends, drawn from stocks that boast net cash and generate a free cash flow exceeding 3%. Instacart was also seen as a potential dividend initiator by Morgan Stanley. Other companies that Morgan Stanley highlighted as potential dividend initiators include short-term vacation rental company Airbnb and biotech play United Therapeutics .

CNN —Almost three decades ago, Richard Hays, a United Methodist minister and the soon-to-be dean of Duke Divinity School, wrote what quickly became the go-to traditionalist Christian argument against same-sex marriage. Fuller Theological Seminary, where Christopher Hays is a professor, also demands agreement with a faith statement that opposes same-sex marriage. Even as support for same-sex marriage has plateaued in the last few years, recent surveys from Gallup find that more than one in five Gen Z Americans identify as LGBTQ, and nearly 90% of Americans under 30 years old support same-sex marriage. The reversal from Hays certainly will not settle the debate among Christians when it comes from same-sex marriage. But I hope it makes opponents of same-sex marriage at least pause and wonder — is there a faithful path forward that makes room for people like me?

The influential Teamsters union on Wednesday declined to issue an endorsement in the presidential race, Megan Lebowitz and Alexandra Marquez report. Prior to the announcement, the Teamsters also released survey data showing more rank-and-file members preferred to endorse Trump than Harris. Still, Harris has won the endorsement of just about every other major labor union in the country (the International Association of Fire Fighters remains a notable holdout). Instead, the Trump campaign appears to be approaching this apparent assassination attempt as an opportunity rather than as a moment to reflect.

However, umpires ruled the ball never hit his foot and Altuve was subsequently thrown out at first base. Replays seemed to show the ball missed Profar, Profar appeared to be upset that he wouldn’t have the chance to bat and the Astros bench couldn’t believe the call.
