Police have said they tied the teens, who were 17 and 16 at the time, to at least three hit-and-run incidents the morning of Aug. 14. NEW YORK (AP) — The cybersecurity attack at MGM Resorts last month is expected to cost the casino giant more than $100 million, the Las Vegas-based company said in a Thursday regulatory filing. MGM wasn't the only casino giant to see a cybersecurity breach last month. The Reno-based company said that its casino and online operations were not disrupted. Washington, DC CNN —Americans are taking notice of a possible government shutdown and the uncertainty of ongoing labor strikes, according to the University of Michigan’s latest consumer sentiment survey. The university’s Consumer Sentiment Index edged lower by 1.4 points in September, according to a final reading. That would mean some federal workers become furloughed and agencies operate with skeleton crews, hamstringing agencies’ ability to provide crucial government services. The ongoing United Auto Workers strike is also not expected to end soon. With so much turmoil, Americans will likely feel uneasy in the coming weeks, which could affect their spending.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The University of Nevada’s basketball team could have a new off-campus home by 2026 under an ambitious 10-year expansion plan that Reno’s largest hotel-casino announced Wednesday. The nearly $1 billion private capital investment will be the biggest in the city's history, according to officials of the Grand Sierra Resort. Before that, the team played at the Reno-Sparks convention center south of downtown. It's been the Grand Sierra Resort since 2006. Last year, Las Vegas hosted Sweet 16 games for the NCAA basketball tournament at T-Mobile Arena on the Vegas Strip.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tens of thousands of hospitality workers who keep the iconic casinos and hotels of Las Vegas humming were set to vote Tuesday on whether to authorize a strike amid ongoing contract negotiations. The Culinary Workers Union, a political powerhouse in Nevada, hasn't gone on strike in more than three decades. Some 53,000 housekeepers, cocktail and food servers, porters, cooks and bartenders in Las Vegas are taking part. The Culinary Union is the largest labor union in Nevada with about 60,000 members in Las Vegas and Reno. Last summer, the casino workers’ union in Atlantic City negotiated landmark contracts that gave workers the biggest raises they’ve ever had.

But the challenge facing Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee in Georgia is unlike any of the others. (AP) — The Nevada Republican Party approved rules Saturday for their presidential caucus that many campaigns suspect are meant to help former President Donald Trump win the state's GOP delegates. The provisions would bar any candidate from the Feb. 8 caucus if they participate in the state-run primary two days earlier. The moves reflect Trump's grip on many state parties and his status as the perennial frontrunner, particularly in Nevada, where the state GOP is run by allies of the former president. But those results will likely be symbolic since the state party refuses to use them to determine delegates. The national Republican Party generally allows state parties to decide how they will award delegates.

In statements posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, the company said resort services, dining, entertainment, pools and spas were operational. It also said its website and phone app were taking dining and spa reservations while the company works to restore hotel booking and loyalty reward functions. Details about the extent of the data breach were not immediately disclosed, including what information may have been compromised and how much the break-in cost the company. Casino company Caesars Entertainment was also hit by a cyberattack, although it said casino and online operations were not disrupted.
