CNN —An Irish basketball team says it won’t replay the final 0.3 seconds of a playoff quarterfinal after it ended in controversial fashion, despite being instructed to do so by Basketball Ireland. However, Basketball Ireland said the NLC then overruled that decision and confirmed only the final 0.3 seconds will be replayed at some point this week. “Basketball Ireland will be in liaison with the clubs to determine when,” a statement from the governing body said. “It would be in nobody’s interest and would be adherent to the values of the game of basketball,” the Panthers said. (AP) — Lefty Driesell, the Hall of Fame coach whose folksy drawl belied a fiery on-court demeanor that put Maryland on the college basketball map and enabled him to rebuild several struggling programs, died Saturday. Driesell was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007, but his entry into the Naismith shrine proved more elusive. He went 9-14 in his debut, one of only two times over an entire season in which he would finish with a losing record as a college coach. SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Steve Wilks has had a roller coaster ride in his first season as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. But the season will end with Wilks calling plays in the Super Bowl with the task of slowing down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilks then joined the Niners staff, while the Panthers had a 2-15 season and fired coach Frank Reich after 11 games. Wilks is now headed to his third Super Bowl as an assistant coach, having lost previous trips in the 2006 season with Chicago and the 2015 season with Carolina when he was a defensive backs coach. The shock of the new, in political life, often sends us back to the past, in search of an intellectual compass. ), which he joined while working as a psychiatrist in Blida, on the outskirts of Algiers. He captured, as no other writer of his time did, the fury engendered by colonial humiliation in the hearts of the colonized. Fanon wrote at the height of the Cold War, but, with no less prescience, he regarded the East-West struggle as a passing sideshow, of far less consequence than the divisions between North and South, of the rich world and the poor world. If the colonial world was, in his words, “a world cut in two,” our post-colonial world seems scarcely less so.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Houston Texans ended their season the same way they started it: with a loss in Baltimore. After going 3-13-1 a year ago, the Texans rode a terrific season by rookie quarterback C.J. “Proud of our guys for their effort throughout this entire season, for getting to this moment,” rookie coach DeMeco Ryans said. They deserved to win,” Stroud said. That all but signified the end for the youthful Texans, who had rookies accumulate 2,536 snaps on offense this season — second most in the NFL behind the Carolina Panthers.
