Zodia Custody, a company that helps large institutions store their crypto, launched in Singapore on Tuesday in a bid to tap into the country's rapidly growing digital asset market. The development makes Zodia the first entity that is owned by and partnered with banks to provide digital asset custody services for financial institutions in Singapore, Zodia said in a news release. Zodia is also part-owned by SBI Digital Asset Holdings, the crypto division of Japanese bank SBI. "Singapore is a market that has been no stranger to the crypto world for a long time," Sawyer said. Standard Chartered has a "fantastic brand" in Singapore, Sawyer said, adding that the backing of such a large institution has helped boost its conversations with major financial firms.

It was not immediately clear whether the latest map denotes any new claim to territory. Its Malaysian counterpart in a statement said the new map holds no binding authority over Malaysia, which "also views the South China Sea as a complex and sensitive matter". The map was different to a narrower version submitted by China to the United Nations in 2009 of the South China Sea that included its so-called "nine-dash line". Asked about the latest map, Taiwan foreign ministry spokesperson Jeff Liu said Taiwan was "absolutely not a part of the People's Republic of China". "China's position on the South China Sea issue has always been clear.

When I learned about Barista FIRE, where you work part-time in "retirement," it was perfect for us. I thought, There are people who have decided to forgo the "work until you're of standard retirement age" lifestyle? It's called "Barista FIRE" because some people choose to work part-time as a coffee shop barista in early retirement. Then, you subtract the amount you think you will earn from your expenses number to get your Barista FIRE number. Using the same numbers as above and assuming $25,000 a year earned from part-time work or passive income, our Barista FIRE number changes dramatically.

REUTERS/Darren Staples/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Britain will host a global summit on artificial intelligence at the old home of Britain's World War Two codebreakers in November as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pitches Britain as global leader in guarding the safety of the fast-developing technology. The summit will take place on Nov. 1 and 2 at Bletchley Park, the site in Milton Keynes where mathematician Alan Turing cracked Nazi Germany's Enigma code, the government said on Thursday. "The UK has long been home to the transformative technologies of the future, so there is no better place to host the first ever global AI safety summit than at Bletchley Park," Sunak said. Nearly 1 in 3 investors would use artificial intelligence as their financial advisor, a new survey suggests — and that has the potential to lead to flawed advice, experts said. Generative AI uses algorithms to create new content like essays, song lyrics, art, photography and computer code — or, in this case, financial advice. ChatGPT, a program that went viral after being debuted to the public late last year, is one example of generative AI. The algorithms that underpin generative AI compile data from sources like the internet to develop responses, and those data sources may not be reliable. In short, financial advice outputs won't necessarily be 100% trustworthy.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams outlined a proposal to convert office buildings into affordable homes. Adams said the goal is to create as many as 20,000 homes to help solve the city's housing crisis. "It makes no sense to allow office buildings to sit empty while New Yorkers struggle to find housing. Empty office buildings are an issue across US cities including San Francisco and Chicago. Opinion: The Donald Trump and Hunter Biden surprises

So it was remarkable Wednesday when the deal for Hunter Biden to plead guilty to two misdemeanors for his failure to pay taxes on time fell apart in a federal courtroom after the judge raised questions about it. Special counsel Jack Smith unexpectedly added a major allegation to the indictment charging former President Donald Trump with mishandling classified documents. The Trump and Hunter Biden developments underlined how America’s political climate is being shaped by what happens in the courts. This addition, an alleged surveillance tape conspiracy, almost reads like a spy novel.”“It features Trump employee and co-defendant Walt Nauta’s surprise clandestine trip to Florida. To W. James Antle III, it was the Hunter Biden plea deal snafu that brought to the forefront the “powerful split screen that drives” how Republican voters see the emerging 2024 presidential race.

The National Weather Service recorded a high temperature of 97 degrees at the Dallas Love Field airport that day. The human body’s primary way to deal with high heat is through sweating, which cools the body when it evaporates. But despite these risks, getting a clear set of rules to protect workers from high heat has proved difficult. OSHA heat safety rulesEven without a specific heat standard, OSHA can fine employers that let heat get unsafe for workers under a “general duty” rule requiring safe work places. “That’s why a heat standard would be much more useful.”OSHA said protecting workers from heat is a major priority.

On Tuesday, the Biden administration announced it’s moving to implement a cybersecurity labeling program aimed at helping consumers pick out trustworthy tech products that are rated as more secure than the competition. Products certified under the new program may come with a QR code that links to a national database affirming its participation, the administration added in a release. “This new labeling program would help provide Americans with greater assurances about the cybersecurity of the products they use and rely on in their everyday lives,” the administration said in a statement. “It would also be beneficial for businesses, as it would help differentiate trustworthy products in the marketplace.”The government proposal comes two years after President Joe Biden signed an executive order calling for an “‘energy star’ type of label” for tech products. “Market forces alone were never going to be sufficient to force manufacturers to step up and deliver more secure devices,” he said.

To receive the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark, companies will have to follow cybersecurity standards set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), such as requiring strong passwords and software updates. Other agencies across the executive branch also plan to get involved in making connected devices more secure, according to the announcement. For example, the Department of Energy will collaborate with National Labs and industry to create cybersecurity labeling standards for smart meters and power inverters. And the Department of State plans to engage allies in syncing up cybersecurity labeling standards and creating international recognition of such labels. Once completed, the FCC could choose to use the standards to apply the new label to these products as well.
