The communication breakdown happens as the social platforms launched in the 2000s have taken on larger lives than anyone anticipated. The candid nature of group chats gives them value and tethers people with looser connections together, but that can also make them unwieldy. Group chats can languish for years; there's no playbook for leaving or kicking out someone who's no longer close to the core group. If a couple breaks up, who gets the group chat? But his group chat might still have the best vibes of all.

“It will not work.”The officials said the briefings occurred in the fall. The FBI commonly provides defensive briefings to senior officials when the bureau learns they have been targeted by foreign intelligence operations. Several members of the House Intelligence Committee and select House committee on the CCP declined to comment when asked if they had received a classified briefing on the matter. U.S. intelligence officials and analysts say China’s efforts to stoke polarization and undercut Americans’ confidence in the democratic process are part of a long-term effort that includes global information operations designed to tarnish America’s image abroad. Fourteen Democratic senators will introduce an amendment Monday evening to remove language from Congress’ massive defense spending bill that seeks to ban coverage of gender-affirming care for transgender children of servicemembers, the office of Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., told NBC News. I trust our servicemembers and their doctors to make the best healthcare decisions for their kids, not politicians,” Baldwin said in a statement. In a statement following the House vote last week, Johnson said the legislation prioritizes “military lethality, not radical woke ideology. A draft of a media release shared with NBC News — and scheduled to be made public Monday evening — from Baldwin’s office said that if the transgender health care provision survives, it could affect 6,000 to 7,000 children of U.S. servicemembers. The amendment to remove the trans health provision from the defense bill will be co-sponsored by Democratic Sens.

SEOUL, South Korea — South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has not responded to a summons for questioning over his failed attempt to declare martial law. South Korea’s Constitutional Court on Monday began reviewing Yoon’s impeachment over the short-lived martial law order, which stunned the East Asian democracy and key U.S. ally. Yoon has apologized for declaring martial law but argued the opposition-controlled parliament gave him no choice by paralyzing the government. Yoon is South Korea’s second conservative president in a row to be impeached after Park Geun-hye in 2016. According to the White House readout, Biden “expressed his appreciation for the resiliency of democracy and the rule of law in South Korea” and reaffirmed the “ironclad” nature of the U.S. alliance with South Korea, which hosts nearly 30,000 American troops.

Footage of the blast emerged as Israel announced plans to double its population in the occupied Golan Heights, citing threats from Syria. Israel occupied the Golan Heights during the 1967 Mideast war and later annexed the roughly 460-square-mile area in 1981 in a unilateral decision that was not recognized by the international community. A teenage boy was jailed on murder charges after, authorities said, he reported killing four members of his family at a New Mexico home Saturday. The 16-year-old boy called 911 at 3:32 a.m. to report the deaths near the small city of Belen, 33 miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico State Police said. State police released the identity of the teenager and the victims; however, NBC News does not typically name juveniles accused of crimes. "New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau agents and Crime Scene Team are processing the scene and conducting interviews to learn what led up to these tragic events," the agency said. After detoxification at a hospital, the teenage suspect was "medically cleared" and booked at the Juvenile Justice Center in Albuquerque early Sunday, police said.

Kyiv, Ukraine CNN —Pastor Dmytro Bodyu said the Russians kept telling him they knew he was an American spy, specifically, a CIA agent paid by the US government to spread anti-Russian propaganda in occupied Ukraine. Oil eases from highest in weeks, investors eye Fed rate cuts

Oil futures eased from their highest levels in weeks as investors awaited a meeting of the Federal Reserve later this week for indication of further rate cuts. Oil prices were bolstered by new European Union sanctions on Russian oil last week and expectations of tighter sanctions on Iranian supply, IG market analyst Tony Sycamore said in a note. Fresh U.S. sanctions on entities trading Iranian oil are already driving prices of the crude sold to China to the highest in years. Oil prices were also supported by key central bank interest rate cuts in Canada, Europe and Switzerland last week and expectations the Fed will cut rates this week, Sycamore said. Lower interest rates can boost economic growth and demand for oil.

She was shocked when the test results came back. Test results can come back as “atypical” for many reasons, such as noncancerous growths like uterine fibroids. Instead, she enrolled in a study at the National Institutes of Health that involved examining women who received abnormal prenatal DNA-sequencing test results like hers. Sequencing results showing a particularly “chaotic” pattern across multiple chromosomes were observed in 47 of the 51 participants with cancer. “Such mirror organisms would constitute a radical departure from known life, and their creation warrants careful consideration.”A fundamental feature of all known life is a uniform chirality, or handedness. No imminent threat exists, the report stressed, and there are currently sizable technical hurdles to creating mirror bacteria. If these shapes were reflected — as they would be in mirror bacteria — recognition would be impaired and immune defenses could fail, potentially leaving organisms vulnerable to infection. Jones, an expert in plant immune systems, said that mirror bacteria would be extremely difficult to detect in plants. When they have to do all that but only with mirror molecules, that all need to be made and invented, then it makes it … 1000x harder,” he said via email.

After the January deadline, US app stores and internet services could face hefty fines for hosting TikTok if it is not sold. TikTok wants Supreme Court to freeze lawCongress passed the ban with bipartisan support earlier this year and President Joe Biden signed it into law in April. If the Supreme Court does not intervene, the ban would take effect a day before Trump takes office. Attorneys for TikTok are asking the Supreme Court to temporarily block the ban to give the company time to ask the justices to review their challenge to it. But First Amendment protections are not absolute, and the DC Circuit unanimously upheld the law on national security grounds.

Why ABC News settled with Donald Trump for $15 million

CNN —George Stephanopoulos ended Sunday’s “This Week” program without any mention of him or ABC News settling Donald Trump’s defamation lawsuit against them. The suit was triggered by a segment on “This Week,” but ABC News has not reported on TV at all its agreement to pay $15 million to Trump’s presidential foundation at all. But the speculation – about why ABC agreed to settle, and why now, and why at such expense - has not gone away. Some Trump critics on the left are also certain that they know what’s going on: They say ABC and parent company Disney are bowing to Trump for craven political purposes. According to court documents, ABC and Trump’s team agreed to the settlement terms last Friday.
