WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Thursday will meet in Belvidere, Illinois, with the head of the United Auto Workers union, and the two leaders are expected to highlight plans to reopen an auto factory that Stellantis wanted to close. The White House announced in a statement Tuesday afternoon that during the visit, Biden will deliver remarks and meet with UAW members and the union's president, Shawn Fain. The contracts, if approved by 146,000 union members in the coming weeks, would dramatically raise pay for auto workers. J.B. Pritzker will also attend Thursday's meeting, the White House said. GM said it was disappointed by the UAW strike at Spring Hill and that it still seeks "to reach an agreement as quickly as possible." Spring Hill Manufacturing, an assembly and propulsion plant, is the largest GM facility in North America with nearly 4,000 total employees. A lengthy Spring Hill strike could greatly increase the financial pain for GM, which said in a filing earlier this week that strike costs had risen to $400 million a week. DETROIT (AP) — The United Auto Workers union has widened its strike against General Motors, the lone holdout among the three Detroit automakers, after reaching a tentative contract agreement with Jeep maker Stellantis. About 14,000 UAW workers had been on strike at two Stellantis assembly plants in Michigan and Ohio, and several parts distribution centers across the country. Workers also will get cost-of-living pay that would bring the raises to a compounded 33%, with top assembly plant workers making more than $42 per hour. Like the Ford contract, the Stellantis deal would run through April 30, 2028. Negotiations between the UAW and Stellantis had intensified Thursday, the day after the Ford deal was announced.

With a population of more than 270 million, Indonesia generated nearly $52 billion in e-commerce transactions last year, according to data from consultancy Momentum Works. TikTok is holding talks for potential partnerships with local e-commerce players, including GoTo's Tokopedia, while building a standalone TikTok Shop app for Indonesia, the people said. It is difficult to overstate just how much the design of modern trucks and SUVs threatens pedestrian safety. When coupled with an increase in speeding and a decrease in traffic enforcement, it is a recipe for greater pedestrian deaths. It almost goes without saying that pedestrian deaths are unevenly distributed among groups. Unfortunately, the path to drastically reducing pedestrian deaths is a steep one. It would require our cities to completely rethink their vehicle and pedestrian infrastructure, with an emphasis on reducing traffic speeds and redesigning streets to force drivers to slow down.

Novo Nordisk — The Danish drugmaker stock added 5.5% after saying late Tuesday it was halting Ozempic's kidney disease treatment trial after a committee said an analysis showed signs of success. DaVita , Fresenius Medical Care , Baxter International — Shares of dialysis services providers DaVita and Fresenius Medical Care sank 18.4% and 19.6%, respectively, on Novo Nordisk's news. Exxon Mobil , Pioneer Natural Resources — Exxon Mobil shares fell more than 4% after the largest U.S. oil and gas producer agreed to buy shale rival Pioneer Natural Resources for $59.5 billion in an all-stock deal, or $253 per share. Amgen — The biopharma stock added 3.5% following an upgrade from Leerink to outperform. On Wednesday, B. Riley upgraded shares to buy from neutral, saying Coherent's silicon carbide business could be worth more than the Street's current estimate.
