(AP) — The National Transportation Safety Board said Saturday it will investigate two crashes involving Florida's Brightline train that killed three people at the same railroad crossing on the high speed train's route between Miami and Orlando. Nike last week lowered its annual sales growth forecast and unveiled plans to cut costs by $2 billion over the next three years. "Goods companies don't have the pricing power they did in the pandemic, and some in the hotel and travel [industries] — they don't have the pricing power they did in the immediate post-Covid," he added. Sales growth for companies in the S&P 500 is on track to average 2.7% this year, according to mid-December analyst estimates posted by FactSet. Consumer spending on apparel and groceries rose 2.4% and 2.1%, respectively, from the year-earlier period, according to the survey.

Most companies, about 85%, direct workers' savings into target-date funds if they're automatically enrolled, according to PSCA data. Workers receive a notification from their employer ahead of reenrollments and have the chance to opt out or reduce their contribution. Employers' hope is that inertia will cause workers to stay in the plan rather than opt out.

Harmony Boyd, 28, moved from Plantation, Florida, to a suburb of Boston in September 2022. I do not think that there is a viable long-term future for anybody living in Florida right now. Everything was making me think I should jump out of this before it is too late for me to leave. Florida felt too ephemeral. Clearwater, Florida, topped SmartAsset's new list of where baby boomers are moving. All but two cities in the top 10 were in Florida, Arizona, or Nevada, though one was in Montana. Four of the top 10 cities — as measured by boomers who moved in 2022 as a percentage of the total population — were in Florida. Nearly 30% of Cape Coral's total population are boomers, while Clearwater is 27%. Over 28% of Scottsdale's total population are boomers.

(AP) — A busy hurricane season that saw the National Hurricane Center in Miami issue the first-ever tropical storm warning for the coast of California and hurricane warnings as far north as Nova Scotia is coming to a close Thursday night. “The 2023 hurricane season does show that we can get impacts just about everywhere," said Michael Brennan, director of the hurricane center. A year earlier, a strong storm surge during Hurricane Ian resulted in multiple deaths and significant destruction across southwest Florida. She said she's more than relieved hurricane season is ending. “So it's either hurricane season, or you're getting ready for the next hurricane season," he said.
