To better understand the security of US voting systems and why there’s no indication that they’re not secure, I talked to CNN’s Zachary Cohen, who covers national security, and Sean Lyngaas, who covers cybersecurity. Amnesty said Saturday the woman had been “violently arrested” after she protested the “abusive enforcement” of the dress code at Tehran’s Islamic Azad University. The woman had previously been harassed by members of the Basij, an Iranian volunteer paramilitary group, inside the university’s grounds, according to an Iranian student social media channel, the Amir Kabir newsletter,. Iranian women can be subjected to harsh punishment, even for minor infractions. Since then, many Iranian women have protested by removing their headscarves in public. But that hasn’t stopped abortion rights supporters from pushing for votes up and down the ballot. Across the South, supporters of abortion rights are using the issue to motivate voters. Although Texas does not have a statewide referendum on abortion, Rep. Colin Allred's Senate campaign has galvanized abortion rights supporters. It’s easier for Democrats to campaign on the issue, she said, because their party is more united in favor of abortion rights than Republicans are in opposition. That switch proved pivotal in passing the state’s abortion ban.

After Harris became the nominee, support from Asian American women jumped to 72%. Support from Asian American men also increased, but not as drastically, sitting now at 59%. In any other month, the finishing touch would be a clean reading on the labor market from the official jobs report. However, a common thread among economists is that the strikes and hurricanes could take a 100,000-job bite out of the October jobs report. The last time there were back-to-back major hurricanes — Harvey and Irma in 2017 — the forecasts for the following month’s jobs report were for a loss of 33,000 positions. And each contribute to two of the biggest numbers in the monthly jobs report. A key date to keep in mind for the jobs report is October 12, as it anchors the “reference period” for both surveys.

Trump has publicly distanced himself from the ideological blueprint, but CNN found at least 140 authors worked in the Trump administration. But given the momentum of the clean energy train, some experts and analysists doubt that Trump would be able to derail it entirely. While the green trend in economics now has Republican states like Texas leading the nation in clean energy installations, Germany, Japan and China got there first. Trump’s plan is to undo that progress, throw billions of dollars of clean energy investment out the window and give other countries the economic opportunity, instead.

Voyager 1 is now using a radio transmitter it hasn’t relied on since 1981 to stay in contact with its team on Earth while engineers work to understand what went wrong. NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft is depicted in this artist's concept traveling through interstellar space, or the space between stars, which it entered in 2012. Voyager 1 has been using one of its two radio transmitters, called an X-band based on the frequency it utilizes, for decades. In the meantime, engineers sent a message to Voyager 1 on October 22 to check that the S-band transmitter was working and received confirmation on October 24. “The S-band signal is too weak to use long term,” Waggoner said.
