A 3D printed natural gas pipeline is placed in front of displayed Chevron logo in this illustration taken Feb. 8, 2022. The transaction might also create a peculiar coexistence of the United States' two leading oil majors in Guyana... Hess is geared towards crude production, with oil accounting for 60% of its current output which fits in very nicely with Chevron's similarly oil-focused portfolio. On the deal itself, the Chevron-Hess merger is expected to have a significant impact on the shale oil industry with Chevron becoming the second-largest shale producer in the United States. The merger is also likely to lead to increased M&A and industry consolidation in the North America shale sector.

Chevron said on Monday it agreed to buy Hess for $53 billion in stock, the second proposed mega-merger among the biggest U.S. oil players after Exxon Mobil bid $60 billion for Pioneer Natural Resources earlier this month. Chevron has offered 1.025 of its shares for each Hess share held, or $171 per share, implying a premium of about 4.9% to the stock's last close. Exxon and partners Hess and China's CNOOC are the only active oil producers in the country. Hess Corp CEO John Hess is expected to join Chevron's board of directors once the deal closes around the first half of 2024. Goldman Sachs was the lead adviser to Hess while Morgan Stanley was the lead adviser to Chevron.

NEW YORK (AP) — Chevron is buying Hess Corp. for $53 billion and it’s not even the biggest acquisition in the energy sector this month as major producers seize the initiative while oil prices surge. Chevron said Monday that the acquisition of Hess adds a major oil field in Guyana as well as shale properties in the Bakken Formation in North Dakota. Hess shareholders will receive 1.0250 shares of Chevron for each Hess share. The boards of both companies have approved the Hess deal, which is targeted to close in the first half of next year. Shares of Chevron Corp., based in San, Ramon, California, declined more than 3% before the opening bell Monday.

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelans will vote on Dec. 3 in a referendum on "the rights" over a potentially oil-rich territory in dispute with its neighbor Guyana, authorities said on Friday. Both countries have been involved in a long-running dispute over their borders. Venezuela protested an oil tender announced by Guyana in September, arguing that the offshore areas are subject to dispute and the companies awarded the fields will not have the rights to explore them. The approximately 160,000 square kilometers under dispute along the countries' borders is mostly impenetrable jungle, and known as the "Esequiba region." Venezuela's claims extend over the territory was reactivated in recent years after the discovery of oil and gas near the maritime border.

US oil production reached an all-time high last week at 13.2 million barrels per day. If this trend continues, "millions of people will die," Stanford climate scientist Rob Jackson said. And it conflicts with oft-repeated Republican talking points of a Biden "war on American energy." Weekly domestic oil production has doubled from the first week in October 2012 to now. United States domestic oil production hit an all-time high last week, contrasting with efforts to slice heat-trapping carbon emissions by the Biden administration and world leaders. Weekly domestic oil production has doubled from the first week in October 2012 to now. White House officials have long considered increased oil production inside the United States as a bridge to help soften the transition to renewable energy sources. She said U.S. oil is less carbon-intensive than other oil, an argument the UAE’s oil company also makes. “Demand drives production — we need to change the whole system to reduce oil demand.”“Replacing oil in power production is a lot easier than replacing oil in transportation,” Gross said in an email.

ExxonMobil and Pioneer Natural Resources logos are seen in this illustration taken, October 6, 2023. After brief informal conversations earlier this year, Exxon approached Pioneer about a deal last month, the sources said. Exxon's shares were hovering near record highs, and it had a cash pile of about $30 billion. Woods had already capitalized on elevated energy prices to streamline Exxon's operations and focus on highly profitable oil and gas production. This allowed Exxon to enter the deal negotiations with its stock coveted by investors as a valuable currency.

In the last four years energy investors have dumped stocks in oil companies that boost capital spending, favoring higher returns over spending on costly, long-term new projects. But Exxon shares last month hit a record high of $120, lifted by returns on its oil, gas and refining businesses. 2 Permian shale oil producer, for $60 billion, signals it is ready to pay up for production after missing its own output targets in the Permian. A deal would bring Exxon to about 1.33 million barrels of oil and gas per day, the largest in the oilfield. It has good reserves, growing production, spending in check and debt at healthy levels, he said.

Mohamed's decision to leave the consortium could reduce complications for the Texas-based company should U.S. authorities decide to levy sanctions on the pair or file an indictment. The construction of the shore base is part of Exxon’s efforts to expand oil production off Guyana’s coast, an important part of the company's growth plans. The five-year plan includes proposed sales in the Gulf of Mexico — the nation’s primary offshore source of oil and gas — in 2025, 2027 and 2029. The three lease sales are the minimum number the Democratic administration could legally offer if it wants to continue expanding offshore wind development. The lease program will guard against environmental damage caused by oil and gas drilling and other adverse impacts to coastal communities, Haaland said. “The (oil leasing) program is definitely informed by the IRA and the connection that the IRA makes between offshore oil and gas leasing and renewable energy leasing,” he said Thursday, referring to the Inflation Reduction Act. The Interior Department can’t sell the rights to drill for oil and gas offshore without first publishing a schedule that outlines its plans.

Sept 28 (Reuters) - U.S. oil producers Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) and Hess Corp (HES.N) have withdrawn from exploring the Kaieteur block in Guyana’s deepwaters, Exxon said on Thursday, after disappointing exploration results. The exit comes as the producers focus on their larger and highly productive Stabroek block, where more than 11 billion barrels of oil and gas have been discovered so far. The companies have transferred their stakes in the block to Ratio Guyana Limited and Cataleya Energy Limited, which originally held the exploration licenses, Exxon said. A consortium composed of Exxon, Hess and CNOOC Ltd (0883.HK) control all offshore production in Guyana through the Stabroek block. The world's fastest growing economy may be on track to grow by more than 100% by 2028, largely fueled by profits from its oil production and export sector, according to one analysis. BMI, a Fitch Solutions research unit, is also of the view that "Guyana will see explosive growth this year," said Andrew Trahan, its head of Latin America country risk. He expects real GDP in Guyana to rise about 115% in the next five years. "The exact magnitude of the increase [is] dependent on how quickly additional oil production is brought online," he added. Guyana's Stabroek Block is a 6.6 million acre offshore oil reservoir off the country's Atlantic coast, and is estimated to hold 11 billion barrels of oil, according to ExxonMobil.

Retail fuel prices in the U.S. and Europe have risen to multi-month highs as crude prices have rallied. "If energy prices increase and stay high, that'll have an effect on spending, and it may have an effect on consumer expectations for inflation, things like that. High interest rates are already curbing demand across Western economies, including for oil. The U.S. Federal Reserve on Wednesday pressed pause on interest rates, but did not rule out one more hike this year. President Joe Biden has already promised to cut prices, though has not said how, and in the short term the impact of autumn refinery maintenance on supplies could keep prices high.

NEW YORK (AP) — More than 30 Atlantic countries on four continents committed Monday to bolster coordination on economic development, environmental protection, maritime issues and more, the White House said. The adoption of the Declaration on Atlantic Cooperation was completed Monday evening at a meeting hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken ahead of the start of the annual U.N. General Assembly meeting. The White House pitched the forum as a way to improve cooperation between northern and southern Atlantic countries on key issues and come to agreement on a set of principles for the Atlantic region. The activists are pushing world leaders to act with greater haste to curb climate change. Many of the leaders of countries that cause the most heat-trapping carbon pollution will not be in attendance for this year's General Assembly.

By Ricardo BritoBRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil is preparing to launch a center for international police cooperation to combat environmental crimes and drug trafficking in the Amazon rainforest by the end of 2023, Federal Police officials told Reuters. The center, agreed upon at the summit of Amazon nations in August, will bring together police authorities from the eight countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO). Uniting the Amazon countries against criminal activity in the world's largest rainforest is key to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's effort to restore Brazil's environmental credentials after four years of soaring deforestation under predecessor Jair Bolsonaro. "We expect to see a significant reduction in environmental crimes in the area and also action involving the entire Amazon region and not just a few isolated countries," Urquiza said. "There's no point in operating only in Brazil," he said, adding that criminals in the region move around the countries of the rainforest to evade authorities.

"We believe there is significant potential in the block," it said, adding that the presence of light oil had been detected. Frontera posted net income of $80.2 million in the second quarter, compared with a loss of $11.3 million or in the prior quarter and net of $13.5 million in the second quarter of 2022, the firm said on Thursday. BELEM, Brazil, Aug 9 (Reuters) - A dozen rainforest countries formed a pact on Wednesday at a summit in Brazil to demand developed countries pay to help poorer nations combat climate change and preserve biodiversity. In the joint statement, the dozen countries called for financing mechanisms to be developed for the world to pay for the critical services provided by forests. They also expressed concerns that richer nations have not delivered on a promise to provide $100 billion in climate financing annually to developing countries. Additionally, they called on developed nations to meet an existing commitment to provide $200 billion per year for biodiversity preservation. At last year's climate summit, Brazil, Democratic Republic of Congo and Indonesia agreed to form an alliance to pressure rich countries to pay for conservation.
