REUTERS/Elijah Nouvelage Acquire Licensing RightsSept 19 (Reuters) - More people in the U.S. turned to traditional TV for news and drama shows in August, with the start of the back-to-school season making a slight dent on the streaming viewership, market researcher Nielsen said. Broadcast viewership, which has declined since January, rose 1.6% in August, thanks to shows like "America's Got Talent" on NBC and "Big Brother" on CBS. Streaming saw a sequential decline of 1.6% in viewers to 38.3% last month, but still accounted for the largest share of viewership. Reuters GraphicsNielsen said that despite the seasonal weakness in streaming, the category has gained 7.0 share points since August last year. Legal dramas "Suits" and "The Lincoln Lawyer" were the top two streaming titles in August, Nielsen said.

Why It MattersMr. McClain’s death in August 2019 drew new scrutiny after the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis nine months later. The May 2020 killing of Mr. Floyd, videotaped by a bystander, ignited a national movement around police brutality and racial injustice. Mr. McClain’s death was quickly linked with the deaths of Mr. Floyd and Breonna Taylor, a Black medical worker who was shot and killed by the Louisville police in a botched no-knock raid. In addition, the death of Mr. McClain set in motion multiple investigations into the Aurora Police Department resulting in a state consent decree as well as local reform efforts. At the time the police stopped Mr. McClain, he was wearing a dark mask (his mother said he had anemia which could make him cold) and waving his arms.

The wheelchair-accessible vehicle called Cruise WAV is based on its Origin driverless vehicle that operates without a steering wheel and pedals with room for passengers to sit facing each other. While the trial marks the tech sector's first major anti-monopoly proceeding in decades, Google is squarely in the middle of its antitrust battles. What the trial is aboutA key focus of the trial will be on two kinds of agreements Google has made with other companies. "The cases have very compatible theories, and the core message from both is that Google's monopoly power has been abused, harming competition and hurting consumers," Weiser said. Walker wrote that the abundance of places where consumers can use online search shows that Google hasn't foreclosed competition. REUTERS/Elijah Nouvelage./File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 7 (Reuters) - The Georgia prosecutor in U.S. President Donald Trump's case has accused a Republican congressman of interfering in a state criminal matter, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Thursday. Trump was indicted in Georgia last month on charges including conspiring to overturn his 2020 election loss. "(There) is no justification in the Constitution for Congress to interfere with a state criminal matter," Willis wrote. Trump, 77, has been criminally charged in four cases this year, two of which were brought by U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith. "The federal government has a substantial interest in the welfare of former presidents," Jordan wrote in a five-page letter to Willis. "And because this former president is a current candidate for that office, the indictment implicates another core federal interest: a presidential election," Jordan said. The House investigation was disclosed three days after Trump accused Willis on his social media platform of "continuing to campaign, and raise money on, this WITCH HUNT. In the case brought by Willis, Trump was accused of unlawfully pressuring Georgia state officials to reverse his 2020 election loss to Biden in the state. Altria seeks US import ban on Juul e-vapor products

The move escalates a dispute between the two e-cigarette makers after Juul filed a similar patent infringement case against NJOY at the ITC in June. NJOY said in its filings that Juul products infringe two of its patents, and that it intends to obtain a ban on products including its currently marketed Juul device and Juul pods. NJOY also sued Juul in Delaware on Tuesday for infringing the same patents, seeking an unspecified amount of damages. Juul filed its own patent lawsuits against NJOY and Altria at the ITC and in Arizona federal court in June, seeking money damages and a ban on imports of NJOY's Ace vapor device. Altria won more than $95 million from cigarette rival R.J. Reynolds in North Carolina federal court last year after a jury found RJR infringed other Altria e-cigarette patents.

All are accused of running afoul of the state's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, law. “You can tell a great story in your indictment, and you might be able to prove it. “The problem with RICO is that it takes a lot longer because there are so many more elements to it,” said Jerry Froelich, a Georgia criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor. In RICO cases, defendants are often loosely associated, making it easier for prosecutors to get them to "flip," or turn on one another. Georgia courts have upheld the law’s use in novel contexts that include Willis' successful prosecution of teachers who falsified scores on standardized tests.

WASHINGTON, Aug 15 (Reuters) - The indictment of Former President Donald Trump for interfering in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia will be the biggest case of prosecutor Fani Willis' career, but it will not be her first contentious prosecution. “She’s not afraid of big cases,” said Gerald Griggs, a criminal defense attorney and president of the Georgia state conference of the NAACP. Willis worked from 2001 to 2018 in the Fulton County prosecutor's office, then won election as county prosecutor in 2020, defeating her former boss, Paul Howard. Willis campaigned on building leniency programs for some low-level offenders, but also adopted a hard line on violent crime and gang activity. “Anybody that thinks they can unleash insults from a podium and that’s going to shake Fani Willis is sorely mistaken."

Aug 15 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Donald Trump was indicted on Monday for his alleged efforts to illegally overturn the Georgia vote in the 2020 presidential election which put Joe Biden in the White House. After defendants in Georgia are indicted by a grand jury, they are arraigned, which is the formal reading in court of the charges. Trump will have his mugshot taken upon being taken into custody, Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat told local media this month. A jury of 12 people from Fulton County must all agree beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump is guilty for a conviction on any count. If Trump is convicted, he would likely seek a new trial by asserting the outcome was inconsistent with evidence or contrary to the law.
