The case is among the latest legal fights pitting Native American tribes and environmentalists against President Joe Biden’s administration as green energy projects encroach on lands that are culturally significant. The springs have served as a place of healing and prayer for generations, the tribe has said in court filings. Federal land managers also are expected to issue a draft environmental review of a lithium mine planned by Australian company Ioneer Ltd. between Reno and Las Vegas. British gambling technology firm Playtech has agreed to sell its Italian unit Snaitech for 2.3 billion euros ($2.56 billion), including debt, to the world's largest betting company Flutter Entertainment , the companies said on Tuesday. Flutter - the owner of FanDuel and Paddy Power - said the deal, which is expected to close by the second quarter of 2025, will add to its earnings per share immediately. The deal will see one of Italy's largest gambling companies change hands, leaving Playtech to continue its operations as a business-to-business software provider. The two parties have been in talks regarding Snaitech since August.

How rate cuts workCentral banks cut interest rates for two main reasons: financial conditions are expected to worsen drastically, or inflation has cooled so much that leaving interest rates at high levels will be overly restrictive and put a drag on the economy. The Fed lowers its target rate by buying more securities, namely Treasury notes and mortgage-backed securities. When they have more money to lend out, they don’t need to charge such high interest rates on mortgages and other types of loans they offer. Business' hiring decisions can be influenced by the Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions. When the Fed lowers or raises rates, it takes a while for the full effect of those moves to be felt across the economy.

The FTSE 100 was seen opening 38 points higher at 8,311, the German DAX up 54 points at 18,681, the French CAC 28 points higher at 7,471 and Italy's FTSE MIB up 70 points at 33,622, according to IG data. The pan-European Stoxx 600 index struggled at the start of the week, closing 0.2% lower on Monday. Investors are awaiting key monetary policy decisions the week, with the U.S. Federal Reserve widely expected to cut rates for the first time in four years on Wednesday.
