The firm resigned and said Trump’s financial statements should no longer be relied upon.

On a nearly 90-degree September morning, Verena Adelsberger held her first pumpkin spice latte in a downtown Manhattan Starbucks. It wasn’t just her first of the season. Ms. Adelsberger, 25, who was visiting the United States from Zell am See, Austria, was moved to try the pumpkin spice latte, often called the P.S.L., after seeing it celebrated online for years. She took a sip of it, which she ordered as a Frappuccino, and grinned. “It’s very sweet.”She rated it a seven out of 10, and then she left to catch the ferry to an equally classic piece of American culture: the Statue of Liberty.

A Smartmatic lawyer compared Rupert Murdoch to a "mafia boss" in a court hearing Wednesday. The company says Fox News and parent company Fox Corp. defamed it through 2020 election conspiracy theories. Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch "ordered a hit" on Smartmatic, the Smartmatic lawyer argued. Connolly made the extended analogy to argue that Fox Corp., the parent company of Fox News, shouldn't escape liability in the case. Erin Murphy, an attorney representing both Fox Corp. and Fox News, argued that it wasn't enough to show that the Murdochs were generally involved in shaping Fox News's editorial coverage.

London CNN —If you drive an older, polluting car anywhere in London, starting Tuesday you’ll have to pay a princely charge of £12.50 ($15.70) per day. That followed the implementation of road pricing in 2003 aimed at reducing congestion in central London. The charge applies 24/7 to gasoline cars generally first registered before 2006 and diesel cars registered before October 2015. New York City is now finally catching up. The New York toll is designed to lower the number of vehicles entering the congestion zone by at least 10% every day.

To the Editor:I was surprised to read Paul Krugman’s characterization of my opposition to New York’s congestion tax proposal as “An Act of Vehicular NIMBYism” (column, July 25). The supposed goal of this plan is to keep vehicles out of Midtown and downtown Manhattan. That sounds like vehicular NIMBYism to me. Now, to be clear, I don’t begrudge Manhattan residents their desire to reduce congestion in their neighborhoods. But unfortunately the proposal seeks to reduce congestion in Manhattan while increasing congestion in a number of North Jersey communities, especially those near the George Washington Bridge.

When David Yun commissioned a custom sign to hang on the wall of his Korean-Southern tapas restaurant, C as in Charlie, he chose LED lighting over neon so that he could change the sign’s color on a whim. Soon, though, the hazy red glow spilling out onto the street became a calling card for the dugout-size restaurant in downtown Manhattan. “Red is risky,” Mr. Yun said. It shows our identity.”With its bright red sign, C as in Charlie joined a herd of restaurants that have embraced a certain aesthetic: dim interiors lit primarily in red. New York CNN —New Jersey is suing to stop New York City’s landmark congestion price plan to charge drivers entering downtown Manhattan. New Jersey filed a lawsuit in federal court Friday against the US Department of Transportation, which gave final approval for New York City’s plan. New York City’s plan could toll drivers entering Manhattan below 60th street up to $23 and is set to begin as soon as spring 2024. New York City’s congestion price plan, which would toll drivers electronically, aims to reduce the number of vehicles entering the congestion zone by at least 10% every day. While no other US city has implemented congestion pricing, Stockholm, London and Singapore have had it for years.

DoorDash recently fired a driver after he cursed at a woman for tipping $5 on a $20 order. It comes as more businesses are asking customers to tip at cash registers and even at self-checkout stations. In a blog post from 2019, Grubhub suggested customers tip 20% — and consider adding more if it's an extra-big order, or if there's bad weather. That means the woman who tipped $5 on her $20 DoorDash order — which is a 25% gratuity — actually gave quite a good tip, drivers said. "A $5 tip on a $20 order?
