Comcast's Mike Cavanagh said the company will explore ditching its cable networks. AdvertisementComcast said this week it might separate from its cable networks and marry off its streaming service. Mike Cavanagh, Comcast's president, floated the idea Thursday of spinning out cable networks like CNBC and MSNBC into a new firm while holding on to NBC. Several industry analysts said that Comcast could increase its valuation by divorcing itself from its declining cable networks, as it would help emphasize its burgeoning streaming business. "The cable networks likely have little value on their own.

Comcast is exploring a separation of its cable networks business, President Mike Cavanagh said Thursday. During the company's third-quarter earnings call with investors, Cavanagh said the company is exploring creating "a new, well-capitalized company owned by our shareholders and comprised of our strong portfolio of cable networks." NBCUniversal's cable networks portfolio includes Bravo, E!, Syfy, Oxygen True Crime and USA Network, as well as news networks MSNBC and CNBC. The company lost 365,000 cable TV customers during the third quarter. Discovery booked a $9.1 billion write-down of its TV networks, triggered by the reevaluation of the book value of the segment.

Despite making films for over 40 years, Tim Burton’s visual style — a signature blend of light and dark — continues to defy neat description. Burton devoured everything from horror films to Ray Harryhausen animations, science fiction B movies and Japanese Kaiju monster films. Beyond Hollywood, Burton’s work has been inspiring the world of fashion for decades. The late Alexander McQueen’s Fall-Winter 2002 show, ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,’ featured a now-iconic Batman-esque parachute cape inspired by Burton’s work. Historical evidence then pointed the study authors to a Belgian tombstone export business thriving at the time, where they theorize the tombstone began its journey. Burial within a church was typically saved for high-status individuals and clergy, and Yeardley was one of two knights to die while the Jamestown church was in use, according to Jamestown Rediscovery. Colonial period cemeteries have suffered neglect and vandalism, with the Knight’s Tombstone likely surviving for as long as it did because vegetation concealed it, she added. It seems to be pretty inherent there in nature, but most (colonists) didn’t have the resources to import a nice carved stone,” Key said. “There were a lot of people being buried in the church, but only one of them had a big old black (limestone) tombstone from Belgium.”

Comcast is thinking about separating or spinning off NBCUniversal's cable networks. NBCUniversal's cable networks aren't growing anymore. That vision never materialized, in part because the media world's attention shifted from traditional pay TV to streaming, which devalued cable networks. The small media company wants to be the vehicle for a cable network rollup, CNBC reported in 2022. But even if Starz doesn't achieve its vision of a cable network rollup, it's possible a private equity firm may have interest in harvesting a group of cable networks for cash.

NASA“Statistically, it’s extremely rare for sungrazing comets to survive (as they fly) past the Sun,” Battams told CNN in an email. A handful of larger sungrazing comets have been observed surviving their close pass by the sun, such as comet C/2011 W3 Lovejoy in 2011. The data, gathered by a research group studying land-use patterns, came to light using modern drone mapping technology known as LiDAR — light detection and ranging equipment. JetBlue Airways forecast a bigger-than-expected fall in 2024 revenue amid a moderation in domestic travel demand ahead of the upcoming U.S. elections, sending its shares down 4.5% before the bell on Tuesday. Election-related uncertainty is expected to weigh on travel demand as consumers prefer to be home and hold off on major discretionary spending. The New York-based carrier expects its 2024 revenue to fall between 4% and 5%, compared with analysts' average expectation of a 3.6% fall, according to data compiled by LSEG. JetBlue, however, managed to report a smaller-than-expected third-quarter loss on Tuesday, owing to improved demand and pricing in the quarter. The airline reported an adjusted loss of 16 cents per share, compared with estimates of a 25 cents loss.
