Curbing immigration was a key reason Britons voted to leave the European Union in 2016. Support for joining the single market, which also guarantees the free movement of goods and services, was divided along political lines. For those respondents who voted to leave the EU and who would back the opposition Labour Party in an election tomorrow, 53% support single market membership, with 31% opposed. For those who voted for Brexit and intend to vote for the governing Conservatives, only 29% would support a return to the single market, with 54% opposed.

Consider the New York Times/Siena College polls released earlier this month from the six closest states Biden won: Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Michigan. A massive 71% of registered voters in those states said Biden was too old to be an effective president. Back in 2020, half that percentage of registered voters (36%) said Biden was too old to be an effective president. The fact that so many voters feel Biden is too old makes sense given that he is the oldest president ever.

More than 4 million people have already cast their ballot after early voting began on Oct. 2. "Our final poll indicates a sweeping ‘No’ victory – with nearing six in 10 voters intending to cast a ‘No’ vote," said Amir Daftari, YouGov Director of Polling and Academic research. Support for the referendum, the first since voters rejected a 1999 proposal to become a republic, has ebbed over the past few months. Supporters argue the Voice will bring progress for Indigenous Australians, while some opponents say enshrining one group in the constitution would be divisive. Referendums are difficult to pass in Australia, with only eight referendums being approved since it became a country in 1901.

Companies Tesla Inc FollowGRUENHEIDE, Germany, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) workers at the carmaker's Brandenburg plant are joining the IG Metall union in rising numbers over concerns around health, safety and overwork, the union said on Monday. Reuters was not able to independently verify the union's claims and Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Union representatives met workers at the factory gates, on the platforms of nearby stations and inside the factory on Monday handing out stickers stating "Together for safe and fair work at Tesla". "The law gives all workers the right to organise in a union and stand openly for that at their workplace. That counts at Tesla in Brandenburg as well," Dirk Schulze of IG Metall said.
