Rumble , a video platform aimed at conservatives, said Monday evening that it will begin allocating a portion of its excess cash reserves to bitcoin and making purchases of up to $20 million in the cryptocurrency. "We believe that the world is still in the early stages of the adoption of bitcoin," Rumble chairman and CEO Chris Pavlovski said in a statement Monday. The move puts Rumble in the same company as MicroStrategy, which began employing an aggressive bitcoin-buying strategy in 2020. Rumble is viewed as a play linked to Donald Trump's return to the White House given its popularity among conservatives. Torrential rain and snow across the country this week could disrupt the record number of travelers expected to be on the roads and in the skies for the Thanksgiving holiday. Waves of storm systems are expected to move through the East Coast this week, threatening to disrupt some Thanksgiving travel on Tuesday and bringing rain and potentially snow on Thanksgiving Day. Forecasters expect it to bring mostly nuisance rain that may slow down some travelers. This week’s event should be weaker, affecting areas farther south in Central and Southern California, rather than in places that are still saturated from last week. Any rain that falls in Los Angeles should be lighter, while the heavier rain of a few inches is likely to fall over areas farther north, like Santa Barbara.

Bitcoin hit a new record high last week, with prices climbing above $99,000 for the first time. CNBC asked analysts for their take on why bitcoin has so far failed to breach the widely-watched $100,000 mark. "There's a ton of leverage in the system right now," Novogratz, a longtime crypto investor, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Friday. Novogratz added that he's advocating investors buy "straight bitcoin" rather than bitcoin-exposed plays, such as MicroStrategy which owns a huge, multi-billion-dollar pile of bitcoin in its corporate treasury reserves. Deutsche Bank's Laboure said she thinks the idea of a U.S. national bitcoin is still far off, practically speaking.

“Gladiator II,” the sequel to the 2000 historical epic, also pulled in an estimated $55.5 million from more than 3,500 locations. With “Gladiator II” and “Wicked,” similar excitement had built up online for months, with many fans gearing up for what they deemed “Glicked” (pronounced glick-id). Similarly, “Gladiator II” and “Wicked” offered moviegoers the opportunity to lean into the contrasting themes. By comparison, Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II” is an action-packed film with swords, violent battles and ancient warfare. Forecasters are increasingly calling for a cold, soggy Thanksgiving week as west-to-east winter-pattern storms continued to roll across the continental landscape. The possibly wet, snowy and cold weather could meet what's anticipated to be the busiest Thanksgiving travel week to-date, the Transportation Security Administration said. A diagonal, low-pressure front accompanied by rain, snow and dipping temperatures was possible for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Thanksgiving, the federal Weather Prediction Center said. The National Weather Service office for Minneapolis said in a forecast discussion that ice-cold air was likely to arrive midweek. Santa Rosa, California, recorded nearly 12.5 inches of rain in three days, which the weather service office in Monterey said was a 1,000-year event.

A wildfire in southwestern Massachusetts grew to 1,000 acres this week, the second fire in the region to reach that size this month. As droughts and heat intensify, the risk of wildfires like these becoming catastrophic is growing across the United States. But after generations of suppressing fire, many millions of acres of brush and tree fuels have built up, increasing the risk of large, dangerous wildfires. Prescribed-burn associations — neighbors helping neighbors burn — are addressing some of these issues by pooling community members’ resources, experience and time. In an era of greater wildfire risk driven by fuel accumulation and global warming, governments should be swiftly removing barriers to the use of prescribed fires on private land.
