CNN —The pandemic threw the US job market into chaos, but four years later, things finally seem to be back to normal. Most indicators support the idea that the labor market is no longer overheated and could easily maintain a new normal of steady, but slower growth. “This is a labor market that’s otherwise moderated,” Nick Bunker, director of North American economic research at Indeed, told CNN. Labor force participation/employment to population ratio: These metrics are key reasons why Bunker and others believe the labor market remains in good shape. The same goes for the prime-age labor force participation rate, which at 83.7% also is the highest in 23 years.

A recently relocated hedge fund manager in Milan is planning to visit London or New York six or seven times a year going forward. "The best type of knowledge comes from people, from frequent interaction with people," said a Milan-based hedge fund manager. Several people — based in spots such as Dubai, Milan, and Zurich — mentioned that people early in their careers should still prioritize working in the biggest cities though. Moving to the Middle East just to interact with fellow UK ex-pats doesn't add much diversification to a portfolio manager's life.

Roy Cooper has taken himself out of consideration to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, according to two sources familiar with the discussions, in a sign that the accelerated search has entered a new phase. A decision could come within a week, two people familiar with the matter said, with Harris’ goal to make an announcement before August 7. She intends to have private conversations with top contenders, sources said, but it was unclear whether those discussions have started. Cooper, whose friendship with Harris dates back to their time serving as the attorneys general of their respective states, was also the oldest candidate under consideration. His age, 67, was seen by some Democrats to be at odds with Harris’ push for a vigorous and younger ticket, the sources said.

CNN —One major lesson from Vice President Kamala Harris’ sudden ascension to be the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is that running mates matter. It’s a point not lost on some Republicans who are second-guessing Trump’s selection of Vance and Democrats who are anticipating Harris’ pick any day. Harris’ pick could come within days, according to CNN’s MJ Lee and Jeff Zeleny, who write that the pool of candidates has shrunk by one. Biden went on to pick Harris, the first woman of color to be on a national party’s presidential ticket. In 2016, Trump picked then-Indiana Gov.

The sound of Harris laughingTrump, trying out new material to mock Harris, has dubbed his opponent as “Laffin’ Kamala.”“She’s crazy. The magician/comedian Penn Jillette, who spent time with Trump during “The Apprentice” years, has talked about how Trump does not laugh. That’s a recurring theme among Trump supporters – that outrageous claims are clearly jokes. It’s a tactic that so far seems to have backfired, since Harris supporters also like to share clips of her laughing. “Apparently some people love to talk about the way I laugh,” Harris said.

So we don’t know what specifically will happen in the next 100 days until Election Day on November 5, or what could come after, when the country’s unique Electoral College process gets going. December: Electoral votes are castAfter questions about the election are settled, states confirm, or ascertain, their statewide results. Electors gather in their respective state capitols to cast electoral votes for their statewide winner. Nebraska and Maine also allocate some electoral votes by congressional district, and these could be pivotal in a close race. In any event, lawmakers gather on January 6, as everyone should remember from 2020, to count electoral votes.

It could also have a major impact on House and Senate races. We talked by email about the state of play for the House and Senate and how the shake-up in the presidential race might change things. PATHE: House races are typically more nationalized than Senate races because the candidates are lesser known; therefore, it’s harder for them to separate themselves from their party and the top of the ticket. Critics say DEI programs are discriminatory and attempt to solve racial discrimination by disadvantaging other groups, particularly White Americans. These diversity training efforts emerged around the time that affirmative action began by executive order from President John F. Kennedy. Despite the backlash against DEI programs and initiatives, many companies are standing firm in their support for DEI. And 71% of people surveyed said they think DEI training is important to “creating a positive workplace culture.”What does DEI look like at work? Thrivent’s DEI training teaches employees how to understand and bridge cultural differences in the workplace, Baker said.

Even before Biden dropped out of the race, Rep. Chip Roy, the Texas Republican, filed a resolution in June after the president’s disastrous debate performance, calling on the 25th Amendment to be used against Biden. After Biden withdrew from the race, Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt, a Republican, wrote letters to Harris and the Cabinet officials in the Biden administration, asking them to remove Biden from office. To forcibly wrest power from a sitting president, the vice president would have to be on board, according to the text of the amendment. Why do we have the 25th Amendment? That was before the 25th Amendment, so there was no constitutional rule.

Netanyahu has known President Joe Biden for decades, but Biden doubts Netanyahu’s sincerity. Netanyahu earned the undying enmity of former President Barack Obama for trying to tank the Iran nuclear deal. Trump turned opposition to the Iran nuclear deal into a major campaign issue in 2016. Despite his long relationship with Netanyahu, Biden has criticized the Israeli leader’s government for being too right-wing. But for all his criticism of Netanyahu, Biden has continued to provide Israel with weapons and aid, and the two men will meet at the White House.

CNN —Ohio Sen. CNN —The ascension of Vice President Kamala Harris to become the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in less than 48 hours is an unprecedented occurrence in American politics. Only four people in US history have won a presidential election as a sitting vice president. Back then, the vice president was the runner-up in the presidential election. In 1861, Vice President John Breckinridge oversaw the counting of electoral votes that made Abraham Lincoln president, at a time when Southern states seceded from the country rather than accept Lincoln’s 1860 victory. Vice President Richard Nixon narrowly lost the 1960 election to John F. Kennedy and oversaw the counting of electoral votes in 1961.

In practice, whoever the presidential nominee chooses as their running mate is typically accepted by the delegates. What happens to the money raised for Biden’s reelection? Biden’s reelection efforts had raised a total of $240 million at the end of June. Those funds are split across the DNC, allied committees and Biden’s campaign committee itself. While no US president has been pressured out of a reelection campaign due to concerns over his mental fitness, it is not unprecedented for an incumbent president to abandon his reelection campaign — but it is rare.

Former US President Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “not to believe the ‘fake news’” that his possible reelection would help Russia, the Ukrainian president’s press secretary said Saturday. The two also talked about the latest Russian attacks on Ukraine and “agreed in principle” to hold a joint meeting, he said. The phone call between Trump and Zelensky marked their first conversation since the former president left the White House, and came the day after Trump formally accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for president. Trump’s newly minted running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, is a staunch critic of sending support to Ukraine. Trump on Friday said he “had a very good phone call” with Zelensky, while the Ukrainian president said he wished Trump “strength and absolute safety in the future,” and “noted the vital bipartisan and bicameral” US support for Ukraine.

California gets 54 electoral votes (it has two senators and 52 congressional districts). The winner is the candidate who gets 270 or more electoral votes. If no candidate gets to 270 electoral votes, the House of Representatives picks the winner from among the candidates who got electoral votes. The campaigns will focus more attention on the fewer than one-third of all electoral votes they consider to be up for grabs or winnable by either party. Two states, Maine and Nebraska, apportion some of their electoral votes by congressional district rather than giving all of them to the state winner.

And yet one of the men, former President Donald Trump, 78, has been able to remake the Republican Party around his own divisive persona. Trump, between now and then, will pick a vice president from a short list of people who have previously criticized him but are now all in.
