"No, we're not going to award AI creativity," Mason said last week at the Fast Company Innovation Festival 2023. The Recording Academy recently published new eligibility requirements for the 66th annual Grammy Awards, which will take place in February 2024. If AI wrote the song but a human singer ... is singing the song, then it's going to be eligible for a performance category," Mason explained. The artists said they use AI for assistance in areas like songwriting, music production, mastering music and even music artwork. "The Academy is here to support and advocate and protect and represent human artists and human creators.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Just a few years ago, artificial intelligence got barely a mention at the U.N. General Assembly's convocation of world leaders. Presidents, premiers, monarchs and cabinet ministers convened as governments at various levels are mulling or have already passed AI regulation. And many eyes are on the United Nations as perhaps the only place to tackle the issue at scale. LOTS OF PEOPLE TALKING, BUT PERHAPS A SLOW PROCESSBut if the United Nations has advantages, it also has the challenges of a big-tent, consensus-seeking ethos that often moves slowly. Ideas differ about what a potential global AI body should be: perhaps an expert assessment and fact-establishing panel, akin to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or a watchdog like the International Atomic Energy Agency?

The Federal Reserve could be about to call time on its rate-hiking campaign, according to Morgan Stanley's top economist. That's because a government shutdown could rob the central bank of key economic data. "In monetary policy making, uncertainty tends to lead to policy paralysis," she told Bloomberg's "What Goes Up" podcast. "If it's a full government shutdown, then you don't really get any of the government data," Zentner added. Around 40% of traders expect the central bank to hike borrowing costs again before the end of this year, according to CME Group's Fedwatch tool.

Here are some of the newest challenges agency leadership teams are discovering as they race to lead AI in advertising. Productivity gains from AI risk undercutting agency feesMany agency bosses have touted the productivity efficiencies AI presents to their companies — from creating lists of search keywords to making tedious work like cataloging invoices less time-consuming. Agencies haven't figured out what to do with the AI talent they've hiredMuch like heads of digital, heads of mobile, and heads of programmatic before them, agency heads of AI are now having their time in the sun. But once such AI talent is sourced, agencies are presented with another dilemma: Where in the organization should a "head of AI" sit? Most businesses have started with this being part of the chief technology officer or the IT department's responsibilities, said Ruben Schreurs, chief strategy officer at the marketing consultancy Ebiquity.

These technology failures during a major scaling event — dubbed success disasters — weren't alone. Ticketmaster's failure during their scaling event was just one kind of success disaster — the overburdening of the system's capacity. Success disasters may be common, but that doesn't make them acceptable, especially if a company is offering products or services considered essential. The right answer really depends on the starting point and what scaling events are anticipated. Even on a smaller (but still substantial) scale, Urban keeps this in mind to avoid her own success disaster.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Zach Wilson was in the middle of the locker room Thursday talking about taking over for the injured Aaron Rodgers when a teammate shouted and made the New York Jets quarterback grin. Wilson struggled mightily during his first two NFL seasons and his confidence took a massive hit, and so did his popularity in the locker room. The way he’s carrying himself around the locker room, around the building is awesome.”Wilson feels it in himself, too. Many Jets fans remain skeptical Wilson has made significant enough progress to step in for a team that had Super Bowl hopes with Rodgers. The Jets want Wilson to play free, knowing the team is his — again — and he doesn't need to look over his shoulder.

CNN —Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano began erupting again after nearly three months of quiet, with glowing lava flows bursting within one of its craters Sunday, according to the US Geological Survey. The eruption started around 3:15 p.m. local time in Halemaʻumaʻu crater in Kilauea’s summit caldera at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, according to USGS. Kīlauea is the youngest and most active volcano on the island, with several summit eruptions since 2020. “The eruption was preceded by a period of strong seismicity and rapid uplift of the summit,” USGS said Sunday night. Sunday’s eruption at Kilauea serves as “a solemn reminder of the sacredness ingrained in this landscape,” Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park said on social media.
