AdvertisementMissy Scalise has begun using AI to cut down on the amount of work she has to do after hours. In 2023, the World Economic Forum reported that employers expected 44% of workers' skills to be "disrupted" within five years. Another challenge with inserting AI into an organization is that it's often difficult to tell which skills workers possess and where they might need training. Charlotte Relyea, a senior partner at McKinsey & Co., believes that leaders need to plan now so they can better forecast the abilities workers will need. Leaders need to think about this as a transformation — what she described as "painting the picture of the future."

They really just want to disintermediate all of pay TV and drive everyone to themselves. Fresh off a vicarious victory over Disney, Thun is still looking for revenge. For DirecTV, it's skinny bundles or bustDirecTV believes these strict bundling requirements are to blame for putting pay TV on life support. Disney is "completely responsible" for the fall of pay TV, Pachter said, "because they think the only direction that retransmission fees should go is up." AI in biology"AI into biology is really interesting because most computer scientists underappreciate how hard biology is," he said. "Biology is really complex — it is not linear, it is not 'programmable biology' the way many people think." AI in roboticsWhile "robots" typically invoke images of futuristic humanoid tech like Elon Musk's Optimus, Wolfe said he thinks "humanoid robots are not going to be the way." Although Wolfe thinks humanoid robots will attract money for their intrigue, he said that robots mimicking human capabilities are "really inferior to what robots can do."

I've never hit the wall before, but I've met enough marathon runners to know its lore. McDowell shared a few things marathon runners can do before and during the race to hop over that wall. "When you're training for a marathon, you want to be training your eating and drinking as well as your running," McDowell said. Most marathon runners do this with supplements, which come in various forms, from gels to chews. She said most marathon runners — especially first-timers — walk at least part of the race.

This week’s issue is written by Yan Zhuang, an Australian reporter in the Seoul bureau (who is very excited about the metro). A key segment of Sydney’s new metro train line opened early on Monday with a level of fanfare usually associated with celebrity appearances or pop concerts. The new section, which connects Sydenham, an inner-west neighborhood of Sydney, to Chatswood, in the north, runs under the city’s business district and crosses under the Harbor Bridge. It is the second part of the metro project to open, after a northern section that started operating in 2019. The news media covered the opening in breathless terms.

The real evils plaguing the Wizarding World cut deeper than one powerful villain. And based on Harry's thoughts right after the Battle of Hogwarts, his actions didn't get to the root of the issue. In the Wizarding World, house-elves are imprisoned and forced to do manual labor despite the fact that wizards could easily accomplish those tasks using, you know, magic. Unsurprisingly, 19 years later, wizard supremacy is alive and wellThe "Harry Potter" series ends with a flash-forward to 19 years later.

CNN —The Justice Department has filed a civil lawsuit against the real estate company RealPage, alleging the company’s software uses landlord data to artificially inflate the price of rent across the United States by quelling competition in the market. According to the complaint, the Texas-based company uses nonpublic data from landlords to train RealPage’s algorithm for pricing recommendations, creating a “vast scheme to subvert the competitive process,” one Justice Department official said. The lawsuit from the Justice Department comes amid a rise in corporate landlords – companies that own large numbers of rental units – a fact that was central to the case. “In a free market, these landlords would otherwise be competing independently to attract renters based on pricing, discounts, concessions, lease terms, and other dimensions of apartment leasing,” the Justice Department said in announcing the charges. “RealPage also uses this scheme and its substantial data trove to maintain a monopoly in the market for commercial revenue management software.”This is a developing story.

New York residency is especially important to Mr. Kennedy because his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, lists California as her home. Mr. Kennedy, 70, an environmental lawyer, spends most of his time at a home in Los Angeles that he shares with his wife, the actress Cheryl Hines. “New York has been his residence continuously since 1964, and Mr. Kennedy has deep ties to it,” Mr. Savino said in the statement. Mr. Kennedy revealed the bear-dumping in a video he posted on social media just before a critical New Yorker profile that included the same anecdote was published. After the bear story became public — resulting in a barrage of public criticism and mockery — Mr. Kennedy sought to fire back, placing a post on X.com on Tuesday, attacking the “mainstream media.”“The more you smear me,” Mr. Kennedy wrote, “the more I’ll keep speaking.”

U.S. high school graduates looking for entry-level work might consider starting out at a company appearing on a new ranking from the American Opportunity Index. Released earlier this month, the list named 50 large companies as the best places for people with a high school diploma to launch their careers. The index scored companies based on three metrics: how likely they are to hire entry-level employees, promote them from within and set them up to land better-paying jobs when they leave. "We didn't see a whole lot out there for the 40% of high school graduates who aren't going off to post-secondary education immediately — most of whom have to find some sort of work," he continues. Rather than survey the companies, the index analyzed the career paths of around 5 million workers from 2018 until 2022 to make its assessment.

But FastPass has been a thing of the past since 2014, and visitors can instead buy a Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, which I decided to opt for. After tax, my $232 park-hopper ticket was $247 (yes, that means the park ticket cost more than my airfare). But after adding the $24 Lightning Lane Multi-Pass in Hollywood Studios and the $20 Single Lane Pass for the TRON ride, the final cost was $291. A single park ticket would have been cheaper, but since I was there for just one day, I wanted to see as much of Disney as possible. At first, I was pretty confused by the way the Lightning Lane passes work.

Each has recorded at least 18 extremely hot days this year. San Antonio, Texas, experienced 54 extremely hot days, 16 more than its 2013-to-2023 average, while Nashville, Tennessee has logged 23, also 16 days above average. “The overall trend is clear: major American cities have experienced a significant rise in the number of extremely hot days,” said Tucker Landesman, a senior researcher with the International Institute for Environment and Development. Of the 50 cities, only three — Los Angeles, Omaha and Kansas City — did not experience an increase in extremely hot days over the five-decade period. “As the world’s richest country, the United States has the resources and technology needed to address extreme heat,” Landesman said.
