Three former Georgia sheriff's deputies were arrested and charged for allegedly beating a Black inmate in a videotaped September attack that "shocked the conscience," authorities said Tuesday. They had already been fired by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office prior to their arrests. The arrests come a week after attorneys for inmate Jarrett Hobbs released several videos showing deputies allegedly beating him on Sept. 3 at the Camden County Jail in Woodbine. The videos showed the deputies appearing to punch Hobbs, drag him from his cell, slam him against a wall, and kick him repeatedly. The incident led to the sheriff's office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation launching separate investigations.
Trump lawyer Alina Habba said he should have "no problem" testifying to the January 6 committee. The committee's subpoena demanded a wide range of Trump's communication records that would cover any exchanges he had while the Capitol was under attack. It asks Trump to submit documents by November 4 and then sit to testify around the middle of the month. On Newsmax — where chyrons echoed Trump by calling it a "political witch hunt" — Bolling outlined how Trump might respond. Former White House strategist Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of Congress after he refused the committee's subpoena.

The case is being pursued by the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force, which was launched in June 2021.

Molavi Abdolhamid, Zahedan's leading Sunni cleric, said during his Friday sermon that officials including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, head of the Shi'ite-dominated state, were "responsible before God" for the Sept. 30 killings. State media said at the time of the Sept. 30 violence that "unidentified armed individuals" opened fire on a police station, prompting security forces to return fire. The Revolutionary Guards said five members of its forces and the volunteer Basij militia were killed during the Sept. 30 violence. Abdolhamid, the Sunni cleric, described the Sept. 30 killing as a massacre, saying bullets had been fired at heads and chests. The activist news agency HRANA reported on Friday that 244 protesters had been killed in the countrywide unrest, including 32 minors.
‘Black Adam’ Review: Rock Bottom

There are superhero movies about the War on Terror, the implacability of evil and the unintended consequences that might ensue if gods were among us. Then there are superhero movies about how cool it might look to shoot lightning out your fingertips. Like “Aquaman” and “Shazam!,” “Black Adam” feels like its script was dreamed up during seventh-grade recess. Adrianna is being pursued by the thugs ruling Kahndaq, so Teth Adam helpfully smites her enemies via such digitally colorful actions as roasting attackers with fingertip-fired electricity and smashing helicopters together while flying. Teth Adam, or Black Adam, as he will come to be known in a nod to both his dyspeptic personality and his skin-tight superhero garb, has much the same powers as Superman, but tied to attitude instead of innocence.
Iranian cleric calls for tough crackdown against protests

DUBAI, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Iran's judiciary should take tough measures against protesters and anyone who thinks the country's rulers will fall is dreaming, a senior cleric said on Friday. The nationwide protests have turned into one of the boldest challenges to Iran's clerical rulers since the 1979 revolution. Protesters have called for the downfall of the Islamic Republic, although the protests do not seem close to toppling the system. Amnesty International has said security forces killed at least 66 people in a violent crackdown after Friday prayers in Zahedan on Sept. 30. Videos of protests have been delayed because of internet restrictions imposed in Iran by authorities, activists say.
Trump lied about the 2020 election and recycled grievances about the Russia probe and both his impeachments in a letter to the Jan. 6 committee. It went on to accuse congressional Democrats of working to "create the fiction of Russia, Russia, Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, the $48 Million Mueller Report ... Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, the atrocious and illegal Spying on my Campaign," and more. On Thursday, the January 6 committee unanimously voted to subpoena Trump for documents and testimony related to his role in the Capitol riot. Thursday's vote to subpoena Trump came after the January 6 committee wrapped up its final public hearing about the events surrounding the Capitol riot. The legality of Trump's actions and statements leading up to and during the Capitol riot has also been called into question by more than one federal judge.

Amini's death two weeks ago has sparked anti-government protests across Iran, with protesters often calling for the end of the Islamic clerical establishment's more than four decades in power. "We all are saddened by this tragic incident ... (However)Chaos is unacceptable," Raisi said in an interview with state TV, while protests continued around the country. Raisi, who had ordered an investigation into Amini's death, said "forensics will present report on her death in the coming days". Raisi backed Iran's security forces, saying "they sacrifice their lives to secure the country". Iran has blamed Kurdish dissidents for the unrest as well as what it called "thugs" linked to "foreign enemies."
Authorities deny beating Amini and insisted in a statement that the cause of death was sudden heart failure, possibly from preexisting conditions. Women who were arrested along with Mahsa told her father that she was beaten inside a van that was transporting them. So, the family does not know what happened inside the van and at the detention centre," said one of the sources close to the family. Where is my child?,” she repeats everyday, said the sources close to the family. Iranian authorities have told Amini's relatives to avoid speaking about her case, said the two sources close to the family.
Videos posted on social media from inside Iran showed protesters chanting, "Woman, Life, Liberty", while women waved and burnt their veils. Videos on Twitter showed protesters chanting "Death to the dictator" in the city of Tabriz, a reference to Iran's top authority Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In the Kurdish cities of Sanandaj and Sardasht, riot police fired at protesters, videos on Twitter showed. Several university teachers have resigned in protest against Amini's death, according to statements published by them on social media. Amini's death has drawn widespread international condemnation while Iran has blamed "thugs" linked to "foreign enemies" for stirring up unrest.
Donald Trump spoke at a rally for JD Vance in Youngstown, Ohio, on Saturday night. He referred to his political opponents as "thugs and tyrants." Those enemies, Trump said, "have no idea of the sleeping giant they have awoken." The "thugs and tyrants" attacking the Make America Great Again movement, he said, "have no idea of the sleeping giant they have awoken." Others have also accused Trump in recent weeks of stoking violence amid the Mar-a-Lago probe, including conservative lawyer George Conway.
Sen. Patrick Leahy, the veteran Democratic lawmaker who told reporters Monday he will not seek re-election in Vermont, holds impressive distinctions. Leahy went on to appear in "Batman & Robin" (1997), "The Dark Knight" (2008), "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012) and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016). "The Dark Knight" gave Leahy his juiciest role outside Capitol Hill — as well as his most cherished Batman cameo, according to David Carle, Leahy's press secretary. "He scared the heck out of me, when he came at me with the knife," Leahy told the political publication Roll Call. "I have too many other things going on with Covid, with appropriation bills," Leahy told the newspaper in August 2020.
