To truly live a purposeful and meaningful life, we might need to make some adjustments to our network of friends and colleagues. I'm also not talking strictly about promoters who will sing our praises when we've reached a high point; they're wonderful, but we need other help along the way. We need the cheerleaders, advisors, and collaborators who are right there with us in the trenches of making or trying something new. 'They can be equal parts role model, mentor, therapist, coach, and co-conspirator'Gems are those people in our lives who help us feel our best. And they don't necessarily need business degrees or a high net worth to be valuable partners in life.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos arrives for his meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the UK diplomatic residence in New York City, Sept. 20, 2021. Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos in an op-ed published Monday evening defended the newspaper's recent controversial decision not to endorse a candidate in the presidential election as a "meaningful step in the right direction" to reverse the loss of trust in the media by Americans. "I sighed when I found out, because I knew it would provide ammunition to those who would like to frame this as anything other than a principled decision," Bezos wrote. Even Limp didn't know about it in advance; the meeting was scheduled quickly that morning," Bezos wrote. "There is no connection between it and our decision on presidential endorsements, and any suggestion otherwise is false.

“Presidential endorsements do nothing to tip the scales of an election,” Bezos, the billionaire Amazon founder, wrote. “No undecided voters in Pennsylvania are going to say, ‘I’m going with Newspaper A’s endorsement.’ None. High-profile Post staffers have also publicly expressed their dismay over how the situation was handled and raised questions over the reason for the eleventh-hour decision. “That was inadequate planning, and not some intentional strategy.”Hours after Post publisher Will Lewis announced the news Friday, Trump met with executives from Blue Origin, a Bezos-founded spacefaring company. Neither campaign nor candidate was consulted or informed at any level or in any way about this decision.

What can account for this shocking abdication from editorial responsibility on the eve of what may well be the most consequential election in our nation’s history? As Mr. Snyder has astutely observed: “Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked.”How sad! Adam HorvathEugene, Ore.To the Editor:Except for its timing so close to the election, the decision by The Washington Post to stop endorsing presidential candidates is commendable. In the current hyperpartisan and hyperpolarized political environment, the practice of newspapers endorsing political candidates has become counterproductive.

President Joe Biden called out Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, now a Republican megadonor and Trump campaign surrogate, for hypocrisy on immigration on Saturday, saying Musk launched his long career in the U.S. as an "illegal worker" before becoming the world's wealthiest man. The president made these remarks at a campaign event to support Democrats that took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. Labeling Musk as former President Donald Trump's wealthy new "ally," Biden said, "That wealthiest man in the world turned out to be an illegal worker here when he was here," referring to Musk. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment on Biden's remarks. New York CNN —One day after The Washington Post announced it would not endorse a presidential candidate in this year’s election or in the future, its billionaire owner remains silent as the newspaper’s staff are in turmoil. A source with knowledge told CNN on Friday that an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris had been drafted before it was squashed. But when Baron was in charge of the newspaper, Bezos “resisted that pressure” and he was “proud” and “grateful” for that leadership. “Bezos has other commercial interests, a big stake and Amazon, he has a space company called Blue Origin,” Baron said. “Reporting around the role of The Washington Post owner and the decision not to publish a presidential endorsement has been inaccurate,” Lewis said.

The Atlantic magazine has found itself in Elon Musk’s crosshairs after it fact-checked a fake image he shared that depicted an article with a headline that never actually ran in the publication. The statement did not mention Musk by name. According to The Atlantic, it is one of several notable instances in the last several years in which faked images of articles from the magazine have gone viral. Both Musk’s and the user’s posts with the fake article were later marked with “Community Note” that clarified that the image was “not a real article.” The Community Note also attributed the edited image to the user and said it was “a satirical edit/photoshop of another article.” Musk did not respond to a request for comment. Forbes reported that in August, Musk reshared a post including a manipulated headline that resembled the British newspaper The Telegraph.
