The moment the first alarms sounded in Israel on Oct. 7, New York Times photographers began to document the unfolding crisis. Over the year that followed, in Israel and in Gaza, they have tracked the Hamas-led attacks and their aftermath, the Israeli military campaign and the human toll of the conflict. Here, seven photographers who have covered the war for The Times talk about the images that have stayed with them most. This gallery contains graphic images. CNN —Al Pacino has revealed that he nearly died of Covid-19 in 2020, and shared his view on what happens after death. In interviews with The New York Times and People magazine, the Oscar-winning actor recounted his experience contracting the virus and briefly having no pulse. Pacino, 84, told the Times in a wide-ranging interview that he began to feel “unusually not good” and then developed a fever and was dehydrated. Asked if the health scare changed the way he lives his life, Pacino told People: “Not at all.”But that isn’t to say the experience left the actor unchanged. Pacino, who is currently preparing for a movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s “King Lear,” confirmed to The New York Times that the experience had a metaphysical effect.

Bret: One of the most interesting recent stories in The Times is an analysis of undecided voters, and their concerns about Trump and Harris. One of most important findings — one that should really concern the Harris campaign — is that a high proportion of undecided voters are young, low-income and Black or Latino. The concerns about Trump are familiar: “too extreme,” “angered easily” and so on. But some of the concerns about Harris were more surprising. The other part, I think, is that Harris hasn’t done enough to reassure undecided voters that she’s decisive, knowledgeable and well-advised.

One thing seems clear: The company is burning through far more cash than it’s bringing in, according to reporting from the New York Times. (That’s revenue largely from subscriptions to premium versions of ChatGPT and licensing its tech to third-party developers.) Here’s where things get a little wild:Next year, OpenAI estimates that its revenue will more than triple to $11.6 billion. In New York City, a group of veteran journalists are trying to fill the gap. The group is tentatively called the New York Editorial Board, according to Semafor editor-in-chief Ben Smith, who helped assemble it in recent weeks. The self-styled board – “a group of journalists grilling politicians,” Smith said – is partly a reaction to The New York Times’ announcement in August that its editorial board will no longer endorse candidates in New York’s local elections. The timing is especially notable in the wake of last week’s indictment of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, raising the possibility of a nonpartisan special election if he resigns. Politicians, they hope, will feel obliged to participate given the prominence of the local journalists going back generations.

You shouldn't prioritize more than three things at a time, says Laura Mae Martin, Google's executive productivity advisor. Every three months is a good time to reassess your three key priorities in life, but being selective about those areas requires a tradeoff mentality, she said. Highlight your calendarFirst, it's important to define your priorities and evaluate whether your actions reflect those intentions. Spend a week doing certain activities at a specific time and then the following week change that up to see what works best for you. Over time, you can use your journal to observe patterns that reveal the conditions that allow you to work optimally.

You will have a choice: Go find that site the same way you find anything else on your phone — or use a QR code. The new, new thing, the Times stresses, will be that CBS will run a QR code onscreen during the debate. AdvertisementYou are reading this on a website, so I'm confident you know how QR codes work. You probably did end up using QR codes more frequently during the pandemic, where they became part of the "touchless" experience in some consumer settings, notably restaurants. But like other pandemic experiences, it looks like the QR code spike has faded post-Covid, now that people are happy to do stuff like hold menus in their hands.

Read previewThe FAA has opened an investigation after two passengers were injured when a United Airlines plane responded to an alert from a midair collision system. AdvertisementThe FAA said in a statement that the flight responded to an onboard alert about another aircraft in the vicinity. The Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) helps prevent midair collisions by monitoring the surrounding airspace and alerting pilots about nearby aircraft. The system sounds an alarm in the cockpit, and the pilots notify the air traffic controller that they are responding to a TCAS alarm, Kevin Karpé, a former air traffic controller and air traffic manager, previously told Business Insider. However, last year, concerns rose about a spike in the number of collision close calls taking place in the US.
