Ron DeSantis on Monday said that Disney CEO Bob Iger should drop his company's lawsuit accusing the Republican governor of political retaliation. They're going to lose that lawsuit," DeSantis said in an interview with CNBC's "Last Call" set to air in full at 7 p.m. "So what I would say is, drop the lawsuit," the governor said when asked what he would tell Iger if he were to give him a call today. They have not had the same special privileges as you have," DeSantis said he'd tell Iger. But I'm not fine with giving extraordinary privileges, you know, to one special company at the exclusion of everybody else," he said.

Despite Trump’s legal woes, no rival Republican has shown much sign of narrowing his double-digit lead in national primary polls. Amin H. Nasser, president and CEO of Saudi Aramco, speaks during a news conference at the Plaza Conference Center in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia November 3, 2019. BlackRock said Monday that Amin Nasser, the CEO of Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil company, is joining the asset manager's board of directors. The world's largest asset manager said the move reflects the firm's emphasis on the Middle East as part of its long-term strategy. In August 2022, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar targeted BlackRock, putting the asset manager on a list of financial companies that "boycott energy companies." "It's got nothing to do with maximizing returns and is the opposite of what an asset manager is paid to do."

DeSantis was absent from the event in his home state, and Trump used the opportunity to attack him. Trump said DeSantis' candidacy was divisive and poked at him over insurers dropping plans in Florida. "We are totally dominating DeSanctus right here in the state of Florida," Trump said, mispronouncing the governor's last name. They're dividing the party, although he's dropping so quickly he's probably not going to be in second place much longer." I said 'I thought you were a DeSantis follower,'" Trump remarked, before declaring that the GOP primary so far has not been competitive.

Washington, DC CNN —Florida is America’s inflation hotspot, thanks to a persistent problem with sky-high housing costs. The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area has the highest inflation rate of metro areas with more than 2.5 million residents, with a 9% inflation rate for the 12 months ended in April. Urban Hawaii had the second lowest inflation rate at 2% — mirroring the Federal Reserve’s target for its preferred inflation gauge, the Personal Consumption Expenditures index. A vexing inflation problem in the Sunshine StateIn Florida, the state’s growing population has been pushing up inflation — particularly via housing costs. Even though the Twin Cities’ inflation rate is currently the lowest among major cities, it might not feel that way to residents, Schipper said.

CNN —Florida vacations are back on, sans stinky seaweed. In April, the seaweed set a record, with scientists identifying 3 million tons of sargassum in the Caribbean Sea. The sargassum that lands on Florida beaches originates in the Gulf of Mexico and the western Caribbean, Hu went on. Small amounts of the seaweed may still land on Florida beaches, but not in large enough quantities to present a problem, according to Hu. But while Florida enjoys clean beaches, in the eastern Caribbean, “they’ll still see a lot of sargassum,” Hu noted.

Florida now contains five of the 10 most overvalued cities in the US, thanks to hoards of newcomers in recent years. Tampa, Florida is now the third most overvalued housing market in the country, with buyers paying a 43% premium. Of the top 10 most overvalued housing markets in the US, five are now located in Florida, according to a recent study from Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University. That's a big jump from August 2021, when Florida had zero cities that cracked the top 10. High mortgage rates have driven up borrowing costs for buyers, while limited housing supply has pushed prices higher.

The DeSantis plan, rolled out at a press conference at the Texas border Monday, lays out steps that should satisfy most Republican border hawks. His immigration plan showcases a candidate interested in effective policymaking beyond pure sloganeering, even if some major questions surround a few key details. The former President noted the similarities — “His plan is my plan,” Trump told Semafor and ABC News on Tuesday. Then, there are the ideas in DeSantis’ plan that have a harder time standing up to scrutiny. Similarly, cutting federal funding to non-governmental organizations that provide aid to those who cross the southern border would be less effective than it sounds.

Americans who are making six-figure incomes and looking to make their dollars stretch even further are flocking to Florida. The Sunshine State has gained the largest number of high-income workers who make at least $200,000, according to SmartAsset's most recent analysis. Florida's lack of state income tax also means high-earners are typically taxed less there compared to other metro areas around the country. High earners living in San Francisco could save around 24% of their salaries by moving to Miami, SmartAsset's study reveals. Here's how much money someone making between $150,000 and $650,000 can save by moving from San Francisco or Chicago to Miami, according to SmartAsset.

China is planning a new joint military training facility in Cuba, per The Wall Street Journal. At 100 miles off Florida's coast, the facility would put China's troops at Florida's doorstep. Intelligence officials told the Journal China's move is a likely response to US's involvement in Taiwan. The officials told the Journal that the facility could allow China to "house troops permanently on the island" and "broaden its intelligence gathering" against the US. The new facility in Cuba would be just 100 miles off Florida's coast, and effectively allow China to station troops right at the Sunshine State's doorstep.

THROUGH THE GROVES, by Anne HullWhatever it meant to be a Floridian while I was growing up is no longer accessible as an identity. Too many beautiful places have been drained dry, or buried beneath concrete. That’s what happens when the population of your home state explodes almost sevenfold in your lifetime. Disney CEO Bob Iger has reorganized the company into 3 core units: entertainment, ESPN, and parks. Parks' growing prominence comes as the company faces looming decisions over Iger's CEO. Travel bans "dramatically impacted" results for Disney Parks during the intense early years of the coronavirus pandemic, Heger noted, adding that parks are now generating more revenue and operating profit than they did in pre-COVID times. The parks' success is "helping to offset" losses from Disney's "DTC," or direct-to-consumer streaming business, Heger added. Josh D'Amaro, the current chairman for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, would be a likely figure appearing on any shortlist of CEO contenders.

The high-stakes indictment puts news organizations, and the nation as a whole, in uncharted territory. News outlets have been preparing in haste for this moment since last week, when the charges were formally unveiled against Trump. Anchors, correspondents, reporters, and photographers from every major national — and international — outlet have descended on Florida to cover the historic proceeding. Other outlets set the stage in their own ways. The move — once again — puts newsrooms in a not unfamiliar position: to take Trump live or not?
