On Monday, a federal judge in Seattle partially granted Amazon's earlier motion to dismiss the case, Reuters reported, citing court records. LAS VEGAS — Vice President Kamala Harris said Sunday that she would "double" Justice Department resources to crack down on cartels and cut the flow of fentanyl into the U.S., just hours after former President Donald Trump repeated his false claim that she wants to legalize the drug. At a rally Saturday, Trump also discussed fentanyl, baselessly claiming Harris wants to legalize it. "She's so radical she even wants to legalize fentanyl right away," he told a crowd Saturday in Wisconsin, a claim he repeated Sunday before a crowd in Pennsylvania. More than 100,000 people died of drug overdoses last year, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sunday's rally was Harris' second in Nevada since she launched her presidential bid.

CNN —The Justice Department sued Alabama on Friday over the state’s recent effort to remove more than 3,000 names from its voter rolls, arguing the move violated federal law prohibiting such action from taking place too close to an election. But in an 18-page lawsuit filed in federal court in Alabama, the Justice Department argued that the so-called voter roll purge ran afoul of the National Voter Registration Act, which governs how and when most states can execute large-scale changes to their lists of registered voters. Nonpartisan election law experts say it’s almost always caught when it does happen, and that it isn’t a widespread problem plaguing US elections. The new lawsuit expands the legal fight against Alabama’s actions, which had been challenged earlier this month by voters in the state, including several impacted by the purge. “I was elected Secretary of State by the people of Alabama, and it is my Constitutional duty to ensure that only American citizens vote in our elections,” Allen said.

Adams, who’s been indicted on five federal public corruption charges, has denied wrongdoing and says he is being targeted because of his positions. Federal agents search Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the mayor of New York City, on September 26, 2024, after Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on federal criminal charges. That Adams, a Democrat, has been charged by prosecutors in the Southern District of New York on corruption charges does not, on its own, disprove Trump’s point. Adams remains defiant in the face of the charges, but they are clearly having an effect on New York politics.

That’s why Maricopa County has spent over $864,000 in federal funds and more than $3 million in county funds to bolster its election security and processes over the past four years. Officials readily shared their worries with CNN, citing death threats, harassment, baseless lawsuits, onerous public-records requests and various security threats spurred by false claims about voter fraud. Amid these challenges, budgets for election security have been squeezed in several ways. Thousands of election workers across the country have reported receiving harassing, offensive or hostile communications, including since the 2022 midterms, according to the Department of Justice’s Election Threats Task Force. As recently as Tuesday, Trump threatened to prosecute and imprison election officials if he wins in November, as he cast doubt on the integrity of the upcoming election.

The justification of political violence online is getting worse, too, with increasingly high-profile people laughing off violent incidents. CNN —The US Coast Guard on Monday will begin a multi-day hearing to examine the loss of the Titan – the ill-fated submersible authorities said imploded in the North Atlantic Ocean in June 2023, killing all five people aboard during a dive to the wreckage of the Titanic. The public hearing will be conducted by the Marine Board of Investigation that was convened within days of the submersible’s disappearance. The MBI – the highest level of inquiry by the Coast Guard – was tasked with reviewing the cause of the tragedy and offering recommendations, including about potential civil penalties and criminal prosecution. The MBI is made up of numerous Coast Guard officials and at least two from the National Transportation Safety Board, according to a list provided by the Coast Guard. When the investigation is complete, the US Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board will each conduct an independent analysis and complete reports, Neubauer said Sunday.

CNN —The first image of the Titan submersible sitting at the bottom of the ocean following its catastrophic implosion last year was shared by the US Coast Guard on Monday as investigators opened a hearing into the tragedy. In the photo released Monday, the submersible’s broken tail cone is seen on the hazy blue floor of the North Atlantic Ocean. The tail cone was severed from the rest of the vessel, its edges ragged, while a ripped fragment of the vessel is seen nearby. The board on Monday called its first witnesses, including former employees of OceanGate, the firm that developed and operated the submersible. Seconds later, the Titan was “pinged” for the last time, and the mother ship lost track of the vessel.

CNN —A California man is facing federal charges after he allegedly tried to choke a flight attendant and “said he was going to kill everybody” while on board a Frontier Airlines flight to San Francisco that had to be diverted on Monday, authorities said. “Flight attendants investigated and discovered that Salva had his hand in the overhead compartment,” the US Attorney’s Office said. During the incident, Salva yelled obscenities at flight attendants and allegedly said, “We are all going to hell,” and “This airplane is going down,” the release said. The flight attendants did not feel safe trying to put Salva back in his seat, and the flight was diverted to Ontario International Airport, the release said. The single highest individual penalty, $40,823, was issued to a traveler who brought their own alcohol on board, was intoxicated, attempted to smoke marijuana in the lavatory, and sexually assaulted a flight attendant – all in a single flight.

CNN —The Biden administration is expected on Friday to announce a major effort to blunt the global influence of RT and expose what it says is the Russian state media network’s key role in the Kremlin’s global intelligence and influence operations, according to a senior administration official and three other sources familiar with the matter. A key finding from the new US intelligence is that, for more than a year, the Russian government has quietly embedded an intelligence-gathering unit within RT that is focused on influence operations globally, one of the sources familiar said. That activity has been part of US officials described as a big expansion of RT’s role as an arm and mouthpiece of the Kremlin abroad. The activity goes beyond propaganda and covert influence operations to even include military procurement, the source said. The US believes RT propaganda and disinformation has been key to generating pro-Russia reactions to the Ukraine war globally, the senior administration official said.

Nvidia's stock rally has another 12-18 months left to go, according to S&P Global's Andrew Chang. The stock has at least another year of "strong runaway" amid big demand for its chips, Chang said. His comments bolster predictions of continued upside for Nvidia, Chang said in an interview with Schwab Network on Friday. "It just confirms our view that we have strong runway for at least the next 12 months," Chang said.
