UPS earned adjusted net income of $1.3 billion in the quarter, or $1.57 a share. “Volume that diverted during our labor negotiations is starting to return to our network,” said CEO Carol Tomé. The company attributed this lowered guidance to global macroeconomic uncertainty, not the lost business associated with the labor negotiations and cost of the new deal. Thanks to a new contract for UPS workers that was negotiated by the Teamsters union, some full-time UPS drivers are now earning a pay package worth $170,000 a year, including benefits. Hourly pay will start at $23 for seasonal package drivers and $21 for package handlers. Despite increased pay for the seasonal UPS workers, the job market is still tight, and it's uncertain how challenging it will be to find workers, Lavery said.

UPS plans to hire more than 100,000 seasonal workers again this year to support the holiday shipping rush, the company announced Tuesday in a press release. As a result of a contract agreement with the Teamsters union that was ratified in August, seasonal workers' pay will start between $21 and $23 per hour, depending on the position. The Teamsters deal with UPS comes as workers from pilots to aerospace manufacturing employees have pushed for and won higher pay. Nearly 80% of the company's seasonal positions do not require an interview, UPS said in the release. The carrier hired the same number of seasonal workers in 2022.
